Love the Bigot

Gretchen Lee Bourquin
They say to love the sinner, hate the sin
A noble olive branch they bring, indeed
For true acceptance means they cannot win
And God Forbid they ever would concede
They paint their mind whatever shade they need
Here's this, the tolerance I contemplate
When searching for a fairer minded creed
I say, to love the bigot, hate the hate

But it's a start, a place where we begin
A place to break the loaf and start to feed
You have to crack the door before you're in
To bring in good intentions, if not deeds
Then hopefully a fairer mind will breed
No matter what the gender of our mates
Until that day, I guess we'll have to plead
Resign to love the bigot, hate the hate

We know our hearts are flesh and theirs are tin
They tease us when they start to see them bleed
Their words are sometimes daggers to our kin
And so we'll wear our armor till they're freed
The fight is on, and we will not concede
We'll save a life, before it is too late
We'll hold out motto true, as words to heed
It's time to love the bigot, hate the hate

A nice twist in the title and the poem is excellent.
