Love Comes and Goes

Emily Griffin

Love comes and goes
A timeless pursuit
Something we all crave deep down within our souls.
It's something that we never seem to completely fulfill.

Love is something that will last through many generations for all eternity. Even the most evil being craves to truly understand something that seems so unattainable. Yet it's something that is so within reach.

Through a simple "hello" from the little old lady with pure white hair and a soft pink scarf around her neck as she gives you a sweet smile as you walk down the dingy sidewalk.

Through a simple, tender touch from a dear friend, to show he cares about you, despite the turmoil in his life from an unexpected divorce.

Through your best friend just listening to something you're saying, even if it seems to be the most pointless thing on the planet. But she still cared enough to stop and just listen...despite their busy schedule.

Through the man you love kissing you for the first time ever, stroking your hair as you fly away on wings and home that you never come down.

But it can all disappear as quickly as your best friend gets married and forgets to even send you an invitation and moves to the other side of the country, to never be seen again.

It can all disappear as quickly as your dear friend filing bankruptcy because his ex-wife took all the money he had and he killed himself because he thought he had nobody to turn to.

And it can leave the little old lady because her own children put her in a nursing home because none of them wanted to take care of her. As she slowly slips away to the other side until it is too late for her children to say goodbye.

You see love is something we take for Granted; we keep looking for it by dating someone. When it's always been right there in front of us...but we are oblivious to whom we have in our lives until it's gone and we can never get it back.
