Love from the Heart

Paula Carpenter
The Bible talks of a young man who went in search of the woman he loves. Song of Solomon 3:3 has him asking the watchmen of the city "Have you seen the one my heart loves?" Can you just imagine the anxious tone of his voice as he travels from house to house looking for her? When he finds her, he says "You have stolen my heart, my sister, my bride. You have stolen my heart with one glance of your eyes, with one jewel of your necklace."

I am a sucker for a love story. Add some tragedy, a couple of cute kids, an adorable animal, some meddling family members, and a happy ending, and you have me hook, line and sinker. Just give me the box of kleenex and back away quietly.

I have seen Steel Magnolias at least a 100 times. At the cemetary after Julia Roberts dies, Sally Fields asks Olympia Dukokis and Shirley McClaine "Who is going to tell that little boy how special his mother was?" and I lose it! I know it's coming and I still can't stop it!

So what do I spend most of my television viewing time watching? Lifetime Movie Network, American Movie Classics, Hallmark, Women's Entertainment and ABC Family.

In the spirit of Valentine's Day, the early morning movie on AMC was "Return to Me". Bob Rueland is happily married until his wife Elizabeth gets killed in a car accident. Grace Briggs is a young woman who was raised by her Italian Grandfather (who is quite a character) after her mother died. She has a heart condition and is going to die. But then Grace gets a new heart and a chance to live.

A year later, she meets Bob and falls in love at first sight. But as they get to know each other, Grace realizes that the heart she has received is Elizabeth's. She fears that Bob's love...isn't really for her. So she does what anyone else in that position would do. She runs. Grandpa finally tells Bob about the heart, and tells him where she is. He travels all the way to Italy to find her! When he says "I love YOU, Grace" it was all over but the crying.

We all need that special moment. It doesn't have to come from a husband or girlfriend. There have been times when one of my children has come into the house and just a simple hug and an "I love you Mom." can make my heart melt. Take some time today to seek out those in your life that are special to you...and tell them. See if it doesn't make your heart soar!

I have especially lately told my girlfriend that has stood with me since my housefire like no other and she is touched. Least I can do for her. Thank you for a very good article to show how important it can be to others.
