Before sharing the earth-shaking revelation to this question that affects a great many people in heavenly proportions, so that everybody is on the same page as to what exactly is being revealed, let's put it plainer: let's say you were told you're an Aries, and so all of the time you've been consulting any (natal) horoscope you've been ramming ahead to astrologer's predictions for that small constellation cut out of the Northern Hemisphere. Yet, rather than telling you you're an Aries astrologers should have told you your seat is in the sign of Pisces.
Now that everyone reading should be on the same page, here's why you've been given the wrong sign thus, all along, the wrong advice when reading various love and compatibility horoscopes, your daily or weekly horoscope, paid for or free horoscopes, even teenage love horoscopes and match love horoscopes.
Love Horoscopes/Daily Horoscope/Free Horoscopes: Everyone Given Wrong Sign (Why)
In a phrase, the answer is precession of the equinoxes, or simply precession. Astronomers have long known about this remarkable development in understanding the heavenly bodies, and now you too can get off the unreliable course of astrological advice from horoscope casting by understanding what astrologers and the business of astrology don't necessarily want you to understand: again, the whole game-changing, monkey-wrench precession of equinoxes.
Notwithstanding tropical astrologers and their brand of astrology, from its inception to the very starting line on the very first astrological star chart, including all of its false imagery, all of astrology would have to be rewritten for it to again be a consideration for a reliable source of advice, since at its fantastical outset it missed the boat on the precession of equinoxes, among other things. Yes, tropical astrologers have sought to factor in the precession of the equinoxes when casting horoscopes these days, so as to validate astrology itself; yet the overwhelming historical evidence proving the falsity of astrology says that trying to validate it by using tropical as its qualifier is akin to painting a canvass black as the night sky of a cold, cloud-covered winter night and then adding a deeper shade of black that it might finally be called a masterpiece by whosoever and everyone that honestly looks at it (astrology) and concludes "it's nothing!"
Love Horoscopes/Daily Horoscope/Free Horoscopes: Everyone Given Wrong Sign (Precession of Equinoxes)
What is the precession of the equinoxes, anyway? In easy terms, take a top or spherical object that's shaped much like the earth and spin it. Once it starts to slow down and wobble, if you were to count from the moment it starts to slow down and wobble all the way around from start to finish, in other words, a 360° (degree) cycle, that would equate to what the earth does every 25,800 years, or so. Once a year the earth goes around the sun, but once every 25,800 years, roughly, the earth completes a wobble.
If you were to break down the 25,800 years it takes the earth to complete one wobble, every 72 years would equal 1° (degree) of the 360° cycle. If you break that down further into seconds, every year the equinoxes have advanced 50 seconds on the arc, or around the circle of the wobble (See attached images for visual help). So, what does all of this have to do with everyone having the wrong zodiac sign? Getting the wrong advice: advice meant for another star sign? Reading someone else's horoscope all of these years? Understanding a little bit more about the backstory of astrology and horoscopes will get you the answer that's tied up with precession of the equinoxes, and why today almost everyone has the wrong sign.
Love Horoscopes/Daily Horoscope/Free Horoscopes: Everyone Given Wrong Sign (Were You Born in the Sign of Aries or the Sign of Pisces?)
In case you didn't know, the (false) science of astrology goes back to the lower Mesopotamian Valley and was centralized in one of the first cities ever built on earth after the worldwide cataclysmic flood: Babel, later known as Babylon¹ ². That was about four thousand years ago. While the Mesopotamian peoples, the Chaldeans and Babylonians, forged ahead with the idea of mansions of heaven, where they believed a different god ruled over each mansion or house of heaven³, it wasn't until the second century B.C.E., however, that a Greek astronomer divided these mansions of heaven into a zodiacal zone [nine degrees on either side of the ecliptic (yearly path of the sun among the stars as seen from the earth)], consisting of twelve parts at 30° each; these parts came to be called the signs of the zodiac and were named after the related star constellations for each part.
Zeroing back in on the problem with the whole pseudo-science of astrology, both sidereal and tropical (the two major forms of astrology practiced in the world aside from Chinese astrology) astrology have major, major, flaws to them. Horoscope casting today using the tropical form of astrology, which is what is in use in almost all of the Western Hemisphere, means astrologers are passing off inaccurate and wrong horoscopes and advice to you and everyone else.
In other words, because of the precession of the equinoxes, if you're told you're an Aries because you were born between, roughly (the sign dates change from year to year), March 21 and April 20, in actuality if you were go out between those dates and look up to the sky of stars you wouldn't see the sun in Aries but in Pisces. Over the past 2000 years or so since zodiac signs were given to constellations there's been a gradual eastward shift of about one degree every seventy years or so.
To put it another way: let's say you were someone born about 2000 years ago and on the day you were born your parents and you were told you were born when the sun was in Leo. Back then the sun was actually in the so-called constellation of Leo. But when you fast-forward to the year 2009 and to the same day of the year that you were born 2000 years ago, looking up to the sky the sun is no longer in Leo; it's in Cancer, now. Yet, you and others are still being told you're Leos and Aries when you're Cancers and Pisces, when following the false science and false logic of astrology and horoscopes. Therefore, all of this time, if you've been reading a horoscope thinking you're a Virgo, you should have been reading the horoscope for Leo. Tss, tss...how unreliable the whole business of astrology and horscopes is when you actually take a look at it.
Love Horoscopes/Daily Horoscope/Free Horoscopes: Everyone Given Wrong Sign ( Old is New, New is Old)
The sidereal form of astrology tries to adhere to how astrology was practiced four thousand years ago. The Babylonians developed astrology in an effort to discover, in the stars, man's future, and so on. Horoscopes were cast with regard to man's relationship to the stars, his stars, so to speak (Though, by and large, portending and such was only done for kings and not the everyday man and woman).
However, trying to continue to practice (sidereal) astrology the way it was fantastically excogitated, devised and practiced at its outset four thousand years ago doesn't quite work out anymore, since the differrent houses or mansions of the heaveans, which, again, were later named as the twelve signs of the zodiac, no longer coincide with the star constellations after which they were originally named.
"Well, wait," you say, reading astrologer, "that only applies to tropical astrologers, not we, astrologers, who practice the real way of astrology." No, the sidereal form of astrology is included, too.
There's nothing really new about the way tropical astrology diverted away from how sidereal astrology was originally practiced. Besides the aforementioned sameness between sidereal astrology and tropical astrology (the different houses of the heavens were later named twelve signs of the zodiac, which no longer coinicide with the star constellations after which they were named because of the precession of the equinoxes), both, the Babylonians (sidereal) and later the Greeks (tropical), practiced astrology with the same idea: that from the position of the stars at the hour of birth the fate of individual lives could be determined.¹
All of what the Greeks did in all of their supposed wisdom was make astrology even more confused by saying it was no longer the stars that mattered as much as the seasons and the sun were now of primary importance.
Did not the Babylonian astrologers believe a different god ruled over each section of heaven and all matters of a persons life below on earth were controlled by the gods in each section of the heavens above, the same as the Greek astrologers believed the destiny of each individual is determined by when he was born?
Love Horoscopes/Daily Horoscope/Free Horoscopes: Everyone Given Wrong Sign (Conclusion)
It's the same thing today, no matter what form of astrology is practiced it's a confused mess at best. One school of thought of astrologers contends that because of the precession of the equinoxes it's no longer man's relationship to the stars but his relationship to the sun. Another camp within astrology says, "wait, it's the equator of the earth that's important." Then you have another camp saying, "if you're going to cast horoscopes these days you have to include the thirteenth sign of the zodiac." The confusion of astrology and horoscopes goes on and on and on.
In fact, astrologers are so mixed up now, to quote one astrologer, Deborah Dillard, on her website she says, "Look at both [sidereal and tropical birth charts] and see for yourself which makes more sense to you." Not only is there division amongst astrologers about which of the two systems to use, since now they don't know which of the two systems, in their eyes, is the correct system for casting horoscopes, but according to how astrology was originally practiced the astrologer interpreted the meaning of the stars, not the person who was having their horoscope read. Now, they're telling people everywhere, "decide for yourself which of the two systems makes more sense to you."
What you have to remember, the zodiacal signs are the result of someone's imagination running wild. Really, when you look up in the sky do you see Orion? How about the ram that's supposed to be Aries? The only constellations that even comes close to what they're called are the Big Dipper and the Little Dipper. As for the rest of them, it's all just someone's imagination that ran wild, and because the fantasy was perpetuated it continues to run wild down through this day.
So I ask you again: what if you found out that every bit of advice you ever recieved from love horoscopes, a daily horoscope and free horoscopes was meant for the zodiac sign before you? You heard that right: what if any advice you've ever gotten from a weekly horoscope, a compatibility horoscope, free love horoscopes, or any of many horoscopes was off by one zodiac sign, the constellation immediately preceeding yours? Suddenly, "looking for love in all the wrong places" and "money having wings" would have new meanings, eh!

Very interesting article.. I have never been a follower of horoscopes... Luckily.. :-)
everyone given wrong sign, everyone given wrong sign, everyone given wrong sign
Excellent information. It really shows how futile it is to put your trust in horoscopes. What Tricia says is so true...better to put our trust in the One who created the stars.
I've always thought the whole idea of taking this stuff seriously was a bit silly, if intriguing...
This was really quite fascinating and you cannot help but start thinking of all kinds of stuff after reading it! Wow...I may never feel the same about astrology!
If I was told this, I would say "so?". Never have put any real stock into horoscopes. Great article.
So, what are the astrologers saying? "Whoops! My bad!" :-D
I never really got into astrology, but this was very fascinating info. Thanks for sharing!
