Love Lies Bleeding Poem

Jen Whitten
My soul blank and empty,

My heart stands incomplete;

My love lies bleeding

And so I weep.

A sinner's pure love,

Or saint's black revenge;

Wait a breath longer, my love

To see all time stand at an end.

When angels weep,

As children mourn;

Come to me now, sweet fiend

And be afraid no more.

That precious petal so delicate, so pure,

Love's thorn pricks when most secure;

Blood does dry and scars can fade

Yet wounds of the heart always remain.

No soul to discern love from hate,

No heart in my chest to temper the pain;

If love is pain then love must be hate

And so no more I weep as I wait.
