They sat beside the stone steps; a bed of faded flowers smothered under frost lay at their backs. He moved his hand onto hers, but she stared up at the spiderwebs of light painted in tree branches by the streetlamp, only looking down when someone walked past. But it wasn't really anyone to begin with.
