Love Makes You Delirious

An Eye-Opener

Jennifer Elliott
I was lying on the couch earlier reading some CS Lewis and came across a really good, philosophical realization. Then I read a friend's blog. I decided to share Mr. Lewis' words:

To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything, and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly be broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no one, not even to an animal. Wrap it up carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements; lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket - safe, dark, motionless, ariless - it will change. It will not be broken; it will be unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. The alternative to tragedy, ar at least to the risk of tragedy, is damnation. The only place outside Heaven where you can be perfectly safe from all the dangers and perturbations of love is Hell.

I'll save you the trouble and spell it out for you: Love is meant to hurt.

Ignorance is bliss. If you are strong enough to mend a broken heart, then you are strong enough to be in a relationship. If you lash out, place blame on the other person, or walk away...you have a weakness. Humans are very protective of their emotions and feelings, especially when it comes to love. People die for love. People kill for love. If love is so important to us, why don't we try harder to maintain that feeling? Sometimes, we are too quick to love just because we are so caught up in being in that loving relationship. And this is why we have so many divorces in our country!

Life isn't perfect. We all know that. We should spend more time on ourselves, individually, trying to find out what makes us happy and what we want out of life. We make the decisions in our own lives that result in self-efficacy. As soon as you are independent and happy with who you are...then you'll be ready to love.

I believe that success is not about how much you get out of life, but how much you put into it. Everything I do, no matter how odd or unusual or insane, is all in the name of having an interesting life.  View profile
