Love Poem: From a Pawn to a Queen

Charles Johnson
In the game of chess a pawn becomes any
piece you decide you want for it to be
when it has crossed all the way through all the
danger to the other side of the board then it's free

For years you have been his pawn
and many years of abuse you've went through
finally you had took enough and bravely walked
step by step you became a stronger you

He didn't care for so long
that you weren't in his life
but now he realizes what you have become
and wants you to forget all those years of strife

He truly doesn't like
the thought of you with me
and not having control over his little pawn
oh what a loss to him that would be

He had his chance to treat you
in the way that a woman deserves
but instead he blamed and hurt you
saying it was your fault that life threw him some curves

Recently you have been swept off your feet
you have met the man of your dreams
you were so happy with me before he
tried to pull your life apart at the seams

He is trying to make you feel guilty
for he has missed his little pawn
Not knowing what a truly wonderful journey
of love for the last few months you've been on

I am trying so hard to be understanding
I will always only wants the best for you
all I wants is for you to be happy
for you to do what you need and want to do

I will forever be here for you
always with opens arms of love
knowing that if this is meant to be it will be
feeling that it is destined to be from above

He had his chance with you
and in you a pawn is all in the past he's seen
But I see true greatness, you are simply amazing
I give love and admiration, for you are my queen

So just imagine what it would be like in 25 years
isn't it my turn to love and adore you
to always make you happy, doing what you want
I know you see my love in everything that I do

You have took a very long journey
tons of pain as a pawn you've seen
now you have reached the other side
where in my safe arms you can become my queen
