Love Without Money

Debra Huckaby
Many people put money on the highest level that it takes to make them happy. However, it should be placed closer to the bottom. Many people argue that money is just a rib of Satan; it can make you do evil things and forget what is right. I have found out recently that money is just that, evil. Yes, I agree money is nice to have and it takes money to make the world go around, but its not everything. I have been married for almost a year now, and we are at our lowest point with money that we have been thus far. Honestly, it hurts sometimes, but its not so bad. I bet you are wondering what we do without money.

We both work full time jobs, and make pretty decent. However, with all the bills that we have, its hard to have much left over to spoil ourselves on. Earlier on in our marriage, we really liked to travel a lot and take weekend getaways. Well, those are a thing of the past now. Maybe once a month, we enjoy a nice dinner out and maybe rent a movie or two that night. Many people feel that in order to be on a "date" you must have an extravagant dinner and go to a movie theater to catch the latest release. To save a little green, try preparing a dinner at home and renting a movie. It costs less and you will get more of one-on-one time that direction. For example, if you were going to go out for a steak and baked potato and then go watch the latest George Clooney movie, fix your steak and baked potato at home (if you are a man, this will really impress your lady) and rent a different George Clooney movie that you've not seen.

So you're not into the whole dinner and a movie date, and you'd rather visit a waterpark? Those places can be super expensive and cause a money crunch for sure. Instead, purchase a kiddie water sprinkler at your local department store, and hook it up in your yard. You can have hours of fun with that, spend less money, and not have to share it with 100 other people. If you have kids, they can join in as well and you will have a great evening. Add some water balloons for an extra splash.

Then there are the sporty types who like to get active on their dates by visiting a batting cage or some sort of "training" place. How about, instead, you dig out your old baseball gloves and baseballs and pass a few in your yard. If that's not enough, call up a few friends and meet everyone at your local park. Most offer baseball fields, basketball courts, tennis courts, volleyball courts, etc. for free. Maybe take some hamburgers, hot dogs and the fixings and have a big barbecue. Those are always promising of fun. If it's dark before you leave, make smore's over the fire.

As you can see, there are lots of things that you can do without shoveling out a whole load of money. Make use of items that you already purchased and just have lying around the house. Not only do you have what I mentioned above, but pull out that PlayStation or XBox or even your old Nintendo system. Those can definitely provide hours of fun. The most promising activity that you can do without any money at all, in my opinion, is sit out on the porch and enjoy a conversation with your significant other. Get to know them a little better than you already do. That can not only create a fun atmosphere for the night, but it will benefit your marriage as well.
