Love Yourself, Heal Your Life Workbook by Louise Hay: Book Review

Tameko Barnette
Back in 1999, I found out about an author and former metaphysical therapist named Louise Hay through a recommendation of a friend. I bought her book, You Can Heal Your Life, which was the first of many helpful tools sent to me throughout my journey of self-healing.

A few years ago, I purchased another book by Louise Hay called Love Yourself, Heal Your Life Workbook. I felt it was important to do this as an action step to all the affirmations I was saying to myself. I had to do something else and this book made sense at the time and still does make sense to my life now.

There are many areas of life Louise touch on within the book such as friendships, love, career, finances, self-love, body care, forgiveness, anger, etc. The first section is an introduction to the flow of the workbook, terminology that will be used throughout the book, the self-healing methods referred to in each section, and an exercise to do on 'deservability'. The next chapter is on basic techniques and where you are right now in terms of your current beliefs about yourself and your life in a variety of areas. The book is made for you to write in, so you can write your responses to questions directly in there.

Then, you go into part two which is simply called 'the process.' This is where the self-healing journey truly begins for you. Each section in part two is directed towards a particular area you may be having an issue with at the time. It is okay to work on the area you feel you need at the time. You do not have to work through each section in the order in which it's written.

The most powerful exercises Louise offers in this workbook, in my opinion, are the Mirror Work exercises. This is when you have to stand in front of a mirror to speak affirmations directly to yourself. This is very powerful! The writing exercises are powerful as well, but there's something about the mirror work that really gets deep down into the heart of self-healing and I could literally feel a shift take place within me as I looked into my own eyes and said, "I love and accept myself" or whatever affirmation that was offered for a particular section.

I believe if you are serious about your self-healing journey and willing to do the work required, you will find Love Yourself, Heal Your Life Workbook an excellent tool and guide to help you on your way to deep inner peace and unconditional love.

Great review. I agree that affirmations are so effective in moving past negativity too. Nice job.
