The one piece of advice that many long time writers at Associated Content give new writers is to write what you know. Today I decided to take their advice and write about my hometown of Loveland, Colorado.

There are so many things Loveland has to offer that it can't all be written in one article. After living in northern Colorado for 30 years, my head is filled with facts and topics relating to the city of Loveland and the surrounding area. I have already written a few articles about places and events in Loveland, Colorado. The links to them can be found at the end of this article.

At this time, I would like to introduce you to my hometown and fill you in on a few facts about Loveland which is also known as the "Sweetheart City" and the "Gateway to the Rockies".

Location

Loveland, Colorado is located about 50 miles north of Denver with most of the city limits west of Interstate 25. Other nearby Colorado cities are Fort Collins, Boulder and Greeley. Cheyenne, Wyoming is approximately 50 miles north of Loveland.

Many people refer to Loveland as the "Gateway to the Rockies" because the entrance to scenic Rocky Mountain National Park is located about 30 miles west of Loveland.

Climate

Loveland boasts about 300 days of sunshine each year. The air is dry and the climate is considered semi-arid.

Summer daytime temperatures are hot, averaging in the 80's with some 90's and occasionally a day or two over 100 degrees. Nighttime brings cooler temps averaging in the 50's and low to mid 60's. Humidity is comfortably low with an occasional afternoon thunderstorm. Precipitation averages about 15 inches per year.

Winter daytime temperatures average in the 30's and 40's with nighttime temps averaging in the teens and lower 20's. Snowfall averages about 45 to 50 inches per year.

Population

When I moved to Loveland 30 years ago, the population was just under 30,000. Today, it is over 60,000. It will be interesting to see what the population will be once the 2010 census is complete.

Living in Loveland

One of the best things about living in Loveland is its scenic beauty. The mountain views are spectacular, especially on winter days when the sky is blue and the mountain peaks are covered with snow.

Although Denver is known as the mile high city, Loveland is also a high altitude city with an elevation of 4,982 feet.

Loveland has numerous parks, three golf courses, a library, recreation center, senior center and a museum. It also has many great restaurants and coffee shops. If you want to keep physically fit, you'll find several gyms and fitness centers throughout the city. If you like to shop, just visit Loveland. The downtown area has many unique shops and galleries. There are also several shopping centers within Loveland's city limits.

Children get a great education in Loveland. I can personally vouch for this fact because I had three children attend our neighborhood schools. In fact, my daughter ended up teaching at one of the local elementary schools.

Many companies choose to locate their businesses in Loveland. They come here for the quality of life our city offers their employees.

Last, but not least, Loveland is a city full of wonderful people. Most of them are friendly, caring, helpful and supportive - a lot like the writers at Associated Content!
