Sitting down to write a top 20 musical favorites list, I was surprised by... well, what should have come as no surprise: my tastes run toward the darkly eclectic. I was born to write the 100 top anti-love songs. The love sucks songs. I had to get into that singularly gooey mind frame, you know the one you get in when you fall in love and it seems like every song was written for you.

Remember the tender deluded early months before the relationship imploded (and sucked all the innocence and goodness out of the universe like a black hole hoovering up all wishful little stars that filled your romantic sky); believe it or not, I can remember back that far.

Now I'm the sort of idiot that jewelers should really offer a bulk discount on wedding rings. I fall for that "forever" line every time. That and the other two best sweet talk for suckers lines 1) "But she meant nothing to me, honey" and 2) "We don't need a pre-nup."

While I may not remember my past marriages fondly, the music that seemed to be written for smitten, pitiful lovesick me -stays with me. Faithfully.
