Loving Hut Cafe Cincinnati: Promoting the Vegan Lifestyle to Help Save the Planet

Vegan Fast Food

The Loving Hut Vegan Cafe Cincinnati has an intimate feel. It's bright and clean with small dine-in areas in front and back. The restaurant is a good fit for the walkable Pleasant Ridge neighborhood that includes the Gaslight Cafe, Everybody's Records, Pleasant Perk, Jordan Gallery and an eclectic business mix of shops and restaurants. Everything about the cafe seems "locally owned;" so you might be surprised when you visit their website and find they are part of the largest growing vegan restaurant chain in the world.

A Commitment to Save the Planet

The Cincinnati location is one of 120 family owned Loving Hut Vegan Cafes. The restaurants are currently open or under construction in Taiwan, Vietnam, the United States, 15 other countries and Australia. Their motto, "be veg go green 2 save the planet," is the nationally known sentiment of spiritual leader and humanitarian, Supreme Master Ching Hai of Vietnam. She is the innovator of the Loving Hut Vegan Cafe fast food concept.

Methane released from livestock is one of the greenhouse gases responsible for climate change. The restaurant chain is part of Hai's active commitment to encourage reduced animal consumption for reduced methane in the atmosphere. She also believes the grain currently used to feed livestock bred for food could be used to reduce world hunger.

Vegan Fast Food

The Loving Hut Cafe is Vegan, but it's also fast food. The cafes are international, so each restaurant serves a plant based menu adapted to regional tastes. They serve ready-to-go hot entrees, side dishes, desserts, beverages and pre-packaged snacks. They also prepare sandwiches, salads and other dishes from their full vegan menu. dishes.

The economical menu is priced to make it easier to bring vegan dishes to the world. They believe a vegan lifestyle is a healthy food alternative as well as a key step toward going green. One example from the menu is the vegan BBQ drumstick. They are plant based, formed in a drumstick shape and served on a stick. The drumsticks are moist and tasty. The texture is like genuine chicken. With a generous veggie rice side dish, the total cost is 3 dollars, about the price of a cheap burger. Their carry out containers and napkins are manufactured from recycled materials. Utensils are biodegradable plant based "plastic."

A History of Humanitarianism

Supreme Master Ching Hai, the originator of the Loving Hut Cafe concept, is the recipient of a number of awards for years of financial donations and humanitarian actions around the world. Most recently she received a 2008 Presidential Active Lifestyle award, a 2010 President's Volunteer Service Award, a Los Angeles County Certificate of Accommodation and a Young Indian Vegetarians Award.

She has given out a number of awards as well. One example is the Shining World Invention Award presented to Save the Children, Dr. Jane Goodall and others who have made significant contributions to "harmony, beauty and sustainability of the Earth."

Hai's SOS global warming campaign promotes the vegan lifestyle as a means to help save the planet. Those willing to make a vegan commitment may also sign an online petition/pledge entitled: "From Crisis to Peace: Organic Vegan Way is the Answer."
