Chicken Broth
When you can substitute lo fat low sodium chicken broth in a traditional Thanksgiving dish, this can save your hundreds of calories and tons of fat.
Mash potatoes are one of the best traditional Thanksgiving dishes that lend them self to being made low calorie with chicken broth. Simply eliminate the milk and the butter and moisten your potatoes with chicken broth to whip them.
This is one low calorie thanking recipe that works, tastes great, and is easy to do!
Herbs
Adding herbs to yoru traditional Thanksgiving dishes is an awesome way to get more flavor minus all the fat and calories. Specifically, the turkey is the perfect play to use herbs. At my home we rub the Thanksgiving turkey with butter or even Crisco. It creates and awesome crunchy brown crust on the turkey.
IN place of the butter, oil, or Crisco try using honey and herbs. The aroma will be amazing and the one will create an awesome skin on the turkey that is sweet, brown, and so yummy. Check out chicken and turn cook books that have roasted chicken recipes that use honey and herb.
Real Fruit
Sugary canned fruit is one terrible hidden source of calories an sugar that is one of the worst items you can have on your Thanksgiving dinner table. Whether you are using fruit cocktail in the can or canned cranberry sauce, simply skip them to save calories and sugar.
IN place of the canned fruits, go for the real deal. You can make your own cranberry sauce from real cranberries and get all the wonderful l vitamins and antioxidants they have to offer. You can also use Splenda or less sugar to make your own cranberry sauce.
Serving a bowl of real chopped fruit salad is always better alternative than the canned fruit cocktail loaded with sugar!
Desserts
You have a few options for turning transitional Thanksgiving desserts into low calorie Thanksgiving Desserts. Break out that Splenda again. On the back of the Splenda bag and at their website you can find tons of low cal, low sugar, ad sugar free dessert recipes that are awesome for a low calorie Thanksgiving dessert.
I love the apple pie recipe on the back of the bag!
If you are baking brownies for Thanksgiving, then try using apple sauce in place of the oil. This is an old Weight Watchers trick.
