Low Cost Christmas Party Games for Kids

Homemade Games for Kids

Kathryn Mitschelen
Christmas can turn into such an expensive holiday, especially when you host the party. Don't let Christmas party games add to the expense. Here are three fun and kid-friendly low cost Christmas games that children can play. Some of these games even let the grown-ups relax while the kids have fun! All of the games provide excitement and are easily created, without much time involved beforehand.

Find Rudolph's nose

You will need a golf ball sized red ball for this game. Call the red ball 'Rudolph's nose'. Children take turns hiding Rudolph's nose somewhere in the house while the others are waiting. The person who finds the nose is the next person to hide the ball. It's like hide and seek, only with Rudolph's nose. Grown-ups can sit on the couch and relax while the kids play this game after the meal! If you can't find a red nose, take a Styrofoam ball about the size of a golf ball and paint it red. Just do this a day or so before, so you are sure the nose is dry in time!

Create a Christmas Tree

You will need a large piece of butcher paper for this game, around 5 feet long. Before the party, draw a Christmas tree on the paper. Set up an area where the kids can be messy and there won't be any problems, such as a porch or downstairs floor. Give the kids markers, crayons, glue, and glitter (depending on how brave you are) and let them decorate the huge tree. Kids love coloring unusually large items, so this is always a hit.

Stack the presents

Before the party, wrap lots of different sized boxes in paper. Save cereal boxes, tea boxes, oatmeal containers. Think of anything that can be wrapped. You could even use old newspaper tied with pretty bows for the wrapping if you don't want to waste wrapping paper. Then, at the party, challenge the kids to see how high they can stack the presents, using all the presents that you have wrapped.

All of these games can be made at home and are budget friendly. Games don't have to be expensive and technical to be entertaining. Providing children with something out of the ordinary that they usually don't use or play with that often is all it takes to spark interest, imagination and fun in children. Have fun playing these low cost party games this Christmas.
