Low Cost Dental Coverage

The recent economic recession has left many people in a position where they are unable to receive proper healthcare and dental benefits. The economic slowdown has made employers less willing to bear the healthcare costs of their employees. On top of that, healthcare and insurance costs have risen dramatically and this means that the average citizen will have to explore alternatives and ensure proper healthcare for themselves and their families.

Here are some low cost dental coverage options:

Discount plans: Discount plans are offered by networks of dentists. By subscribing to discount plans, you can save plenty of money in the long run. You can visit any of the participating dentists, get general checkups, fillings, etc. and save anywhere from 10 to 60% on the total costs. One of the main advantages of availing yourself of a discount plan is its cost. The cost of joining these programs is usually very low, around $150 per year. If you do not visit the dentist often, discount plans may be even better than traditional insurance plans.

One of the disadvantages of discount plans is you have to pay for the performed treatment at the time of the appointment. However, you can still save a large amount of money on total fees.

Generally, discount plans cover general checkups, fillings and surgery. Cosmetic surgery may or may not be covered. You can contact your dentist for more information.

Group plans: There are many groups such as the Lions Club, which provide dental insurance to their members. Insurance companies will cover dental expenses of the members for free. If you happen to be a member of such a club or networking group, you may be eligible for free or discounted dental healthcare services. To learn about the options available to you contact the coordinator of your club or networking group.

Military: If you are active or retired member of the military, you may be eligible for certain health benefits which include dental care. Your family members may also be eligible to receive these benefits. However, this may differ from place to place. Contact your local welfare authorities for more information about the benefits that may be available to you.
