A Valentine Card
Valentine Cards too expensive? Try making your own valentine card. There is nothing more personal than a homemade valentine from the heart. You might think it's silly, but you will change your mind when you receive a big hug from it. You can use: construction paper, glue, regular paper, crayons, markers, glitter, yarns or anything else you have on hand. Don't forge to write something personal in the card that says, "I love you!"
A Valentine Gift Box filled with Love
How about a valentine box or container decorated by you filled with a homemade treat?
The box or container can be made out of anything in your house. You can use any type of empty box or container. Nothing too large. Just large enough to put a small sweet treat in. Start paying attention to what you are throwing away.
For your decoration, you can use broken jewelry for bling, old mismatched shiny buttons, left-over shiny wrapping paper, ribbons from past presents, etc. You might have some old tile pieces laying around. You can break them into small pieces and make a mosaic patter with them by gluing them to the box.
Hmmm....yummy....homeade treats! There is nothing better than homemade treats! Try something sweet like heart-shaped cookies, red and pink candies, or some homemade caramel corn.
An Electronic Valentine made by You
If you are a little tech savvy, try compiling some photos and outlining them with hearts and valentines in a picture program. Make a little story out of it and burn to a CD. wrap the CD and give as a gift to that special someone. They can upload the pictures to their digital photo frame or display as a screen saver.
Home is where the Heart Is
Say, "I love you," with a romantic dinner and movie at home. Who says you have to go out to dinner? Dinner at home is private and can be more romantic. It doesn't have to be fancy - just some food favorites to enjoy and a rent a movie you have both wanted to see or rent a romantic movie you have both enjoyed a long time ago. Don't forget some popcorn.
But we got the Kids....no problem. See if there is someone who would like to swap babysitting for a night. They can watch your kids for your romantic night and then pick a day you can watch theirs.
It's in the Stars
Valentine star gazing.....if you check the weather and it is forecasted to be a clear night, pick a place to ride to out in the country where there are no lights to interfere, put back the moon roof and lay in each others arms and gaze at the stars. It can be very peaceful and romantic. Talk about the first time you met and the first time you kissed. This is sure to melt anyone's heart.
Strawberries and chocolate!
For a just a few dollars, you can purchase some fresh strawberries from you local supermarket and a couple of chocolate bars. Melt the chocolate in a microwavable bowl at home and dip fresh strawberries in the chocolate and eat them while you listen to romantic music on the stereo and talk about romantic times you have had with each other.
Fun for the Kids
Have a heart dinner....with everything you make for dinner, try to make a heart out of it. If you are having potatoes, try cutting them into hearts before cooking them, or arrange your dinner on the plate in the shape of a heart.
Kids love this!
Don't forget the light show! Make paper heart doilies and have a light show with the kids. Cut out paper heart doilies and shine a flashlight through them on the wall in a dark room. See how many different patterns you can come up with. Kids love to see their work in lights!
Valentines Day can be fun and memorable for all without spending a fortune.
