Low Fat and Super Fast Party Foods that Will Please Any Crowd

If you are like me, after a month straight of holiday parties with decadent foods, cookies, homemade fudge, and other holiday treats, you can't wait for the New Year's Diet to begin, just so you can go to sleep without an angry digestive system. If you are hosting a New Years, Christmas, or other holiday party, there is no reason not to give yourself a break from the season's decadent eatings (not to mention get a head start on your New Year's diet.) With this delicious spread of foods that is high on flavor and low on fat, your guests won't even notice the fat is missing.

Low Fat Appetizers that can be Prepared in an Instant

Mix your own low fat ranch dip by stirring a packet of ranch dressing mix into a 16 oz. tub of reduced fat sour cream. Serve with sliced veggies and baked potato chips. You can find pre sliced veggies at your grocery store's salad bar or by the bag in the produce section. Mix the sour cream with a packet of French onion soup mix for a flavorful alternative to ranch.

Hummus is also a delicious dip for veggies and pita chips, which are naturally low fat. Hummus can be found in the deli section of your produce section in a variety of flavors. For a pretty presentation, purchase thee flavors of hummus that are different colors and layer them in a pretty glass dish.

When served with baked tortilla chips, chips and salsa is a healthy and delicious party food. Go to a local taqueria or Mexican restaurant and purchase two or three types of salsa and some guacamole. (Even though avocados naturally have fat, vegetable based fats are the healthiest way to provide your body with the fats it needs).

Pre cooked turkey sausage that has been heated with barbecue sauce in a crock pot is a deliciously simple warm appetizer.

Spread baguette slices with prepared basil pesto or sun-dried tomato pesto topped with a pinch of grated parmesan or romano cheese. Just before serving broil for 1-2 minutes, until toasted.

Low Fat Desserts and Beverages

Low fat caramel sauce is a great dip for sliced apples and pears. For a creamier dip, mix some caramel sauce with softened reduced fat cream cheese.

Spiced cider can be kept warm all evening in a crock pot as can hot cocoa prepared with non fat milk. Put non fat half and half or flavored creamer out alongside of your coffee.
