Low Cost Ideas
Just because the decision has been made to homeschool the children does not mean that the parents need to run right out and purchase the first set of curriculum, and all that comes with it. If the family lives near museums and or an aquarium, they could consider purchasing a membership. This could be a nice chunk of money in the very beginning. However, if the child and parent frequent the museum, the membership has paid for itself within the first two or three visits.
Museums and aquariums memberships ultimately offer frequent field trips for the homeschoolers and their children. Parents can create worksheets, and reading material based on the exhibits that they choose to visit.
Joining other homeschool groups within the homeschoolers locale can help to offset the cost of some field trips because a group rate would be offered. There are also homeschooling clubs with minimal joining fees for the year that offer additional socialization opportunities as well as additional learning opportunities.
No Cost Ideas
The Internet has a plethora of free information that can easily be transformed into curriculum for a homeschooling parent on a budget. Public domain books and art can be downloaded and used as reading, language arts, and science curriculum as well as many other subjects. Subjects including, but not limited to math, English, language arts, and music worksheets can be downloaded determined by grade level. Parents also have the ability and freedom to create their own worksheets for their children.
The library also offers books with a range of information from animals to space, mathematics to history, and more.
A walk through the park, or even down a street can teach a child about history, science, and or math.
Even in the current economic state, an effective, efficient, and top-notch education can be achieved through low or no cost homeschool ideas.
