Low Risk Car Insurance Factors

When auto insurance companies are giving you a price quote for car insurance, there are a number of risk factors they look for. If you have many low risk factors, you will save a lot of money on your auto insurance policy premiums.

Low Risk Car Insurance Factor: Being a Woman
One of the first major factors that differentiates one driver's insurance premium from another's is the driver's gender. Women have significantly lower auto insurance rates because they are low risk drivers compared to men. This is because women are generally more careful and attentive, and less daring and prone to showing off and driving recklessly.

Low Risk Car Insurance Factor: Experienced Drivers
Another factor that labels you as a low risk driver by insurance companies is your experience behind the wheel. This is because you are far more likely to get in an accident in your first few years of driving than you are when you have been driving for 30 years, and hardly have to think about what to do when you have a close call on the road.

Low Risk Car Insurance Factor: Being Married
This factor has far more of an effect on the premiums for men than it does for women. Basically, once a man has gotten married, insurance companies begin to classify him as a more responsible citizen, lowering his insurance premium. Many men will find that when they get married, their premiums for the two drivers and two cars are hardly any higher than they were for their pre-marriage solo premiums.

Low Risk Car Insurance Factor: Working from Home
Another factor that will lower your risk in the eyes of auto insurance companies is the number of miles you expect to drive your car. If you work from home and aren't involved in a rush hour commute, you are far less likely to get in an accident. This is yet another good reason to try to find a job that allows you to telecommute at least a few days per week.

Low Risk Car Insurance Factor: Having a Child
Car insurance companies will often lower premiums for drivers who have children. This is because you are far more likely to be careful if the life of your precious little one is on the line. Of course, saving a little bit of money on your car insurance is not a good reason to have a child, because they are very expensive in their own right, but you will find that it is a nice bonus on the insurance premiums because parents are lower risk drivers.
