Low-Cost Holiday Gifts for Raw Foodists

Marilyn Quinn
This holiday you can find affordable, low-cost gifts for the raw foodists in your life. The holidays are a time for gathering of friends and family. Raw foodists are faced with many challenges to their lifestyle during the holidays because the traditional holiday dinners offer little in the way of suitable food for their diets and gifts often come in the form of food; cookies, cakes, meat trays and such. You can shop frugally and thoughtfully for the raw foodist this season.

1. A really nice set of kitchen knifes makes a wonderful gift for anyone; but to a raw foodist, good knives are an essential kitchen item. As someone who loves to cut vegetables, I can tell you a quality knife makes all the difference in the ease and pleasure of preparing meals. Even if you just bought one really good knife, it will be a much appreciated gift.

2. Sprouting is a big part of adding nutrition to a raw food diet. We found a sprouting jar with seeds at Amazon for under $20. This sprouting jar comes with alfalfa seeds; but can be used for any seeds after those have been used. We also found the site of Sprout People; if you want to give a gift of different seeds to sprout, other types of sprouting equipment or kits.

3. For under $10 you can get a hand-held citrus juicer. It is convenient and quick when you just need to juice a small bit of citrus, instead of breaking out the large juicer. On this particular model we found at Raw Guru, the juice container is also a measuring cup, so you can see how much juice you have.

4. A spiral slicer is perfect for raw food chefs. The model we found is under $25 and is hand operated, so we love the fact that it conserves energy also. This one has stainless steel blades and a collection bowl. It is dishwasher safe and you can adjust the width setting.

5. Maintaining a raw food diet requires a lot of education and creativity. Why not give the gift that can offer both on a continuing basis? Purely Delicious Magazine is available by subscription and comes out four times a year. Each issue has recipes, tips, reviews and articles on nutrition and health.

When you give a thoughtful gift that supports a person's lifestyle choice, you give one of the most meaningful gifts there is: acceptance.
