Low-Cost Ways to Decorate Your Bathroom for Christmas

Michelle K. Miller
With Christmas nearing, chances are you're going to have family, friends, and maybe even other guests, and you want every room in your house look its best. Yes, you clean and polish the living room, kitchen, dining room, bedrooms, and bathrooms. You decorate, most commonly, all but the bathrooms. However, this Christmas, make your bathroom, festive, too. Here are some ideas to turn your bathroom into a Christmas-friendly room.

1. Festive Soaps: For the sink area, instead of the same old bar soap, which can collect bacteria by the way, use liquid or foaming soaps in holiday packaging. For prepackaged soaps, I like Bath and Body Works Twisted Peppermint Soaps. If you like lotion, you can purchase the matching kind of the same page, as well as a variety of other toiletries. Not only are these in refreshing peppermint scent, but they also come in pretty peppermint packaging. If you'd prefer to use your favorite liquid soap, you may purchase it, and put it in a decorative soap holder fit for the holidays.

2. Christmasy Shower Curtain: Especially if you have a plain, generic bathroom, or even if you don't, take down your otherwise year-round shower curtain, and put up something more indicative of the holidays. Something cute like Christmas trees, gingerbread men, or snowflakes would all be good ideas-- whatever you can find.

3. Holiday Scented Colored Candles: Some of us like to have candles in the bathroom anyway, to light and enjoy while unwinding in a hot bubble bath. Replace your usual favorites with Christmas scents for the holiday season. My favorite are votives from Yankee Candle. I just visited there recently, and purchased one of my favorite scents, Christmas Cookie. If you buy votives, buy festive red and green holders, maybe in mosaic patterns. If you want to skip buying your own holders, just buy your favorite scents in the jars.

4. Colorful towels: You may think that this idea will run up a bill and break the bank, but it doesn't have to. If you go to somewhere like Wal-Mart, you can purchase a few bath towels, wash cloths, and hand towels in festive colors like red, green, and gold, to liven up your bathroom this holiday season.

5. Cute knick knacks: Probably one of the most inexpensive items on this list, you can hit up your local dollar bargain store, and score cute Christmas knick knacks for Christmas. Sure, you think of these more for the living room, but there's no harm in putting one or two on your bathroom counter. Maybe a small ceramic Christmas tree would add some color and festivity.

If you're into decorating and making every room in your home look holiday friendly, think about adding a little Christmas to your bathroom. I guarantee your friends and family members will be surprised, and you'll get a compliment or two.
