Cholesterol levels may be hereditary. They also may not be controlled by diet and exercise in some cases. You may need a cholesterol controlling drug. If you do take one, you should be aware that it will also lower your good HDL cholesterol, so you may need to do more to increase it.

Fish such as salmon, tuna, and mackerel are high in Omega 3's and very beneficial to your health including raising your good HDL cholesterol levels.

Lower your bad LDL cholesterol levels by exercising and eating healthy. Reduce your stress to keep your bad LDL cholesterol low. Increase your exercise so that you are exercising for at least 30 minutes per day. Increase your intake of vegetables.

The most important thing to do for your high LDL cholesterol is to listen to your doctor and take any medication that is prescribed.

Lower Triglycerides to Balance Your Cholesterol Levels

Lower your high triglycerides by eating healthy and exercising. Most of the things that you do to raise your good HDL cholesterol and lower your bad LDL cholesterol will help you lower your triglycerides if they are too high. Many people do not even consider their triglycerides when they think about cholesterol, but they are equally as important as LDL cholesterol and HDL cholesterol.

Stop drinking alcohol to excess and stop smoking or any other bad health habits that you may have.
