My girls just attended their fourth Lowe's Build and Grow® Clinic. Twice a month, Lowe's has these great workshops where kids can get hands on experience in building a wooden project. The best part is that these clinics are FREE! My girls have built a Mother's Day planter box, a pirate ship, and most recently a school bus. They really enjoy the workshops and I really enjoy them since I send the girls to these with their Dad. It's a great way for some daddy/daughter bonding while giving Mom some well deserved alone time.

If you're new to the clinics, it's very easy to sign up. Just log on to the Lowe's Build and Grow® website and follow the registration instructions. They recommend the clinics for children in first through fifth grades but we've taken our four year old and she's done great. First-time participants (up to 50) receive goggles and a child size Lowe's work apron. After each clinic the kids get a project themed patch that they can then add to their apron. They also get a merit certificate which always makes them feel proud. The clinics are on Saturday mornings and this month they are making a drum (Sept. 12) and a fire truck (Sept. 26). If you sign up for the fire truck, make sure you see the other events going on at Lowe's that day. It's "Safety Saturday" and Lowe's has partnered up with the Home Safety Council to promote Fire Safety Month.

Thank you Lowe's for providing such a great program. Having children make something with their own hands really gives them a sense of accomplishment while also teaches them how to use tools safety (wear those goggles) and how to follow directions. My girls have played with their creations countless times. We'll keep on attending the clinics and hope that others will follow our lead.
