The LSU Gymnastics team, ranked No. 7 in the nation, will open their 2009 season in Cancun, Mexico at the Cajun Classic on January 2, 2009. The Tigers will compete against No. 8 Michigan, No. 19 Boise State and North Carolina (unranked) in the quad meet.

LSU competed at the Cajun Classic last year and posted a record breaking score for opening the season with a 195.725 score. The Tigers will be competing this year with 10 of the athletes from last year's roster. They have been working hard in the gym and ready to start competition.

The Tigers have several seasoned athletes returning to the squad that will be athletes to keep an eye out for in 2009. Ashleigh Claire-Kearney, the 2008 SEC Co-Gymnast of the Year also won the SEC Floor Championship and the All Around. She ranked No.2 in the nation in the all around standings last year and also earned All-American honors on the floor and uneven bars.

Junior, Susan Jackson will be another Tiger looking to make her mark in 2009. Jackson won the NCAA Vault National Championship in 2008 and All-American honors on all-around, floor, beam and floor.

Rounding out the "seasoned" squad are Summer Hubbard, a junior All-American on bars and senior Lauren Klein. The LSU gymnastics team has eight other members ranging from juniors to freshman status.

This should be a tight meet with tough competition coming from 8th ranked Michigan.

The LSU Gymnastics team is coached by D-D Breaux, who has held her position as Head Coach of Gymnastics for 32 years at Louisiana State University. Assistant coaches are Bob Moore and Philip Ogletree.

The Cajun Classic will kick off at 1:45 pm Central Standard Time at the Hilton Resort in Cancun, Mexico.
