The "Wheels to Succeed Bike Race" was sponsored by the McMains Children Development Center in order to raise money for children with physical disabilities. The money raised from the "Wheels to Succeed Bike Race" is designated to purchase specialized three wheel bikes for the children.
The LSU Gymnastics team was instrumental in hosting the event and providing support for the children. The gymnastics team set up event tents, gave out temporary tattoos, helmets, balloons and water bottles to all participants.
The LSU Gymnastics team also cheered the participants on during the event, which included six different races. At the end of the races the gymnastics team awarded the children with medals and other awards.
D-D Breaux, head coach of the LSU Gymnastics team, served as the announcer to the event in which the gymnastics team has participated in for the last three years.
Coach Breaux was quoted as saying this about the event, "It was all about getting the kids who work with McMains' involved in physical activity like their brothers and sisters do."
Breaux encourages her team to participate in several charity events throughout the year. The LSU Gymnastics team is credited with other charity events such as raising money for breast cancer research, visits to children in the hospital, Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon, and other community events.
Samantha Engle, a senior and All-American on the LSU Gymnastics team said that the team looks forward to the McMains' bike race each year. Engle had this to say about the event this year, "It's great to know our community has this amazing program. This year's race had a great turnout, and we had a fantastic time working with all the kids."
