LSU Pulls into #2 in the BCS, Buckeyes Remain #1
Kansas and Oklahoma Join Oregon to Round Out the Top 5 Teams in the BCS
1: Ohio State, 10-0, BCS Score of .995
Ohio State went out this week and, despite an early threat from Wisconsin, the Buckeyes stepped it up in the second half, scoring 28 of their 38 points in the third and fourth quarters. The #1 ranking in the BCS is Ohio State's to lose, as it appears that even if LSU wins out, the Buckeyes winning out with a 12-0 record would keep them atop the BCS. The dominant Ohio State defense recorded 9 sacks this past week against the Badgers, while the Ohio State offensive line has only let Todd Boeckman get sacked 11 times all season. The Buckeyes now face Illinois in Columbus, which should push Ohio State to 11-0. Ohio State has playmakers galore on both sides of the ball, from Todd Boeckman, Chris Wells and Brian Robiske on offense and James Lauranitis, Chimdi Chekwa and Malcom Jenkins on defense. If a team plans to stop Ohio State, whether it be Michigan in the season finale or whoever Ohio State is on pace to play in the National Championship, it is evident that that team will have play a complete game on both sides of the ball.
This past week: Ohio State beat the Wisconsin Badgers 38-17.
Next week: Ohio State hosts the Fighting Illini in their final home game of the season.
2:LSU, 8-1, BCS Score of .941
This past week's win over Alabama put LSU not only first in the SEC West, but in excellent shape to win the SEC West and the SEC Championship. LSU may be able to hold on to this #2 ranking for the remainder of the season, barring any upsets by Louisiana Tech, Ole Miss or Arkansas. While many people are most likely happy about this win, especially critics of Big Ten football, it is important to note that not many high-caliber football programs, such as Ohio State, are going to have a quarterback that completes only 14 of 40 passes and still almost wins. Matt Flynn did look very good for LSU though, going 24 of 44 and throwing 3 touchdowns. An Ohio State loss and LSU winning out would put the Tigers in the #1 spot, but if Ohio State and LSU win out, look for the top 2 spots in the BCS to remain the same, setting up an Ohio State/LSU matchup in the National Championship in New Orleans.
This past week: LSU beat Alabama 41-34.
Next week: LSU hosts Louisiana Tech in what should prove to be an easy win for the Tigers.
3: Oregon, 8-1, BCS Score of .918
The only more exciting thing in Oregon besides the flashy uniforms is the recent performances Dennis Dixon has put on as the Ducks' quarterback. Dixon completed 13 of 22 passes in Oregon's win over Arizona State, for 189 yards and 4 touchdowns before leaving the game with an injury. The team has reported that it is nothing serious, which is good news for the Ducks as they make a run at a spot in the BCS National Championship. Oregon shouldn't have too rough of a schedule to finish off the season, facing Arizona, UCLA and finishing the regular season with Oregon State, but it's also not a schedule that will help them in making up ground on LSU without an LSU loss in the regular season, or an LSU loss in the SEC Championship. Right now, a big concern for the Ducks should be Kansas, who finishes the season against a strong Missouri team.
This past week: Oregon beat Arizona State 35-23, knocking the Sun Devils out of the BCS Top 5
Next week: Oregon takes a week off before heading to Arizona.
4: Kansas, 9-0, BCS Score of .843
Nothing reminds pollsters and sports fans that you're undefeated like putting up 76 points in a game. No, this isn't a basketball recap-the Kansas Football Jayhawks put up 76 points against Nebraska with starting quarterback Todd Reesing completing 30 of 41 passes for 354 yards and 6 passing touchdowns. Kansas now goes on to play two weak teams in the form of Oklahoma State and Iowa State before concluding their season hosting Missouri, a game that could either end their undefeated streak or help they earn a lot of computer points.
This past week: Kansas beat Nebraska, 76-39 in front of the Kansas hometown crowd.
Next week: Kansas takes their explosive offense on the road to Oklahoma State.
5: Oklahoma, 8-1, BCS Score of .839
The Sooners ' 42-14 win over Texas A&M was another example of Oklahoma Sooner dominance over Texas football teams, having beaten North Texas 79-10 earlier this season and Texas 28-21 as well. Good news for Sooners fans is that Oklahoma plays another Texas school in two weeks: Texas Tech, before concluding their season against in-state rival Oklahoma State. A shot at a bid in the National Championship is a bit of a stretch as it stands, but this season has been full of crazy games and results. The probability of Oklahoma winning out and posting an 11-1 record is very likely and it would without a doubt put Oklahoma in a BCS bowl.
This past week: Oklahoma beat Texas A&M 42-14.
Next week: The Sooners host Baylor this coming weekend.
Week 11 Game to Watch: #18 Auburn at #10 Georgia, Saturday November 10, 3:30pm on CBS
This week's game to watch is a SEC matchup between Georgia, who leads the SEC East and Auburn, who trails LSU in the SEC West by only one game. While neither team has a shot at the BCS National Championship, and both teams are on the outside looking in at a BCS Bowl, both of these teams are playing to win their respective divisions to matchup for the SEC Championship for a Bowl game berth.

Post a CommentWassup is so right...I'm about sick of hearing about the god-awful Big 10. I haven't watched Oregon enough to debate, but I think both the Ducks and LSU are tough teams...both would CRUSH Ohio State. Seeing as I'm partial to the SEC, I hope LSU gets the chance to do it.
Further proof that the BCS is screwed up: Oregon is below LSU. Clearly that is not the case. But I digress. Ohio State is benefiting from a weak conference and voter confidence; the big game is easily Michigan. LSU still has a couple of conference games left that could ruin their run at glory, and Oregon doesn't exactly have a shoo-in schedule. Should be fun to watch.
