LSU vs. Alabama Game Highlights Big SEC Weekend

The LSU-Alabama Game is Drawing a Lot of Press for Saturday's Game

The LSU vs. Alabama game is taking shape as a great SEC match-up. The LSU vs. Alabama game score could really determine who comes out of the SEC West to play Florida for the SEC title game. There is a lot on the line for both teams when they take the field this Saturday, November 7th, and a win by either of them will keep their hopes for a national championship game alive and kicking. Alabama comes into the game with a 5-0 record in the SEC and an 8-0 record overall, while LSU comes in at 4-1 in the SEC and a 7-1 overall record. The only loss that LSU has so far this season was to Florida a few weeks back.

At the end of the regular season, the winner of the SEC East faces off against the winner of the SEC West to determine which of the two teams will get an automatic berth into one of the allotted BCS Bowl games. The conference as well as many of the top SEC schools is hoping that one or two of their teams can qualify for the national championship game of college football this season. It seems nearly impossible to put two SEC teams into that final game at this point though, with so many other teams still undefeated during the regular season, but stranger things have happened in the course of college football history.

The clear favorite between the Alabama and LSU game right now are the Alabama Crimson Tide. They sit undefeated, and have rotated between the top three spots in all the rankings during the 2009 campaign. They have put up 254 points and only given up 91 through their first eight games, and both of those statistics put them ahead of LSU on paper. One could argue that LSU has had the tougher schedule up to this point, but that would only be arguing semantics at this point, because they both have to go through Florida eventually. This match-up is key for Alabama, because they need to show a lot of strength on the field to get voters back on their side of things.

It's going to be a really tough game for LSU on Saturday (12 P.M. game start time) because they need this win and then a lot of additional help if they hope to make it back to the college football national championship. It could be very tough for a one loss team to qualify for the big game, but if they were to beat Alabama, win the SEC West, and then knock off Florida in the SEC Championship, they could still stand a great chance at being invited to the big dance. The road is much easier to plot for Alabama, but that's why they play the games. No matter how we look at it, the Alabama vs. LSU game on Saturday comes down to bragging rights most of all, and both teams really want to take this one home.

This is the game that I'll be tuned into this week. Like USC and Oregon last week, this is the game this week. Unless Florida gets beat, which would serve them right after that Spikes-Meyer joke...
