Crowton will be joining Randy Edsall, the new head coach of the Terrapins. Crowton and Edsall worked together previously at Boston College.
Crowton came to LSU in 2007, the year the Tigers won the BCS National Championship. His overall record at LSU is 40-13 during his four years as the Tigers offensive coordinator and quarterback coach. However, Crowton and the Tigers ranked last in the SEC in passing in 2010.
Les Miles had this to say about Crowton in his announcement, "I appreciate all that Gary did for LSU during his four years with us," Miles said. "Gary helped us win a lot of games over the last four years, including a national championship. He's an outstanding coach and a man of great character. "We wish him and his family well in any of their future endeavors."
Crowton's resignation comes at the heel of Miles' announcement that he will be staying at LSU. Miles was offered the head coaching position at Michigan, his alma mater. Many thought he would jump at the offer, but he declined, saying he and his family were happy in Baton Rouge. With the offer of an extended contract by LSU, Miles turned down the job at Michigan.
While the Tigers struggled several times during the 2010 season, they pulled off a win against Texas A&M in the 2010 Cotton Bowl and finished the season ranked number eight in the AP and Coaches Poll.
Many LSU fans blamed head coach Les Miles for some bad calls and time management issues during the season and even wanted him fired. Personally I believe some of this blame should have been put on Crowton.
Les Miles stated that a search will be underway immediately for a replacement. In the meantime, we look forward to next season with a number five recruiting class. Who knows, with a new offensive coordinator, we may bring home another national championship.

I hated to see Maryland's coach go, but it looks like some good people are heading that way. Sorry about LSU losing Crowton
