Lucid dreaming may at first mention come across as science fiction even though the idea was introduced by Dutch psychiatrist and writer, Fredrik Van Eden [1860-1932.]

Wikipedia precisely defines lucid dreaming as a dream in which one is aware one is dreaming. According to www.art-of-lucid-dreaming.com lucid dreaming is an art form involving conscious dream control. The website offers advice on how to begin lucid dreaming and how to stay lucid.

Just in case you're curious,lucid dreaming returned about 842,000 results from a google search. While I'm not going to list them all, you may want to do your own research if this concept is new to you or you believe you may be among the lucid.

San Francisco, Examiner reported on Lucid Dreaming, Religion and Cognitive Science, a talk by scholars including Kelly Bulkeley, Eleanor Rosch and Ryan Hurd, held at The Institute of Buddhist Studies in Berkely, May 7th of 2009. The article gives the impression of lucid dreaming as a spiritual and intellectual pursuit.

Recently, perhaps, lucid dreaming got a bad rap when several news reports stated that Jared Loughner, alleged Tucson shooter holds some interest in lucid dreaming. Lucid dreaming is not known to encourage people to committ acts of violence. My understanding regarding the study of lucid dreaming involves the technique of learning to keep unpleasant thoughts out of one's mind.

The only criticism I can perhaps offer to lucid dreamers involves the notion we can all control our dreams. The concept of lucid dreaming may come across as blasphemy or blame to those who suffer nightmares. However, if you believe it is possible to tap into the subconscious there is a window of hope for lucid dreaming.

As I'm writing, I'm reminded of an old, familiar song by Queensryche. I just had to know if the lyrics have anything to do with the experience or practice of lucid dreaming. Songfacts on-line explains Silent Lucidity is a song depicting the journey of a person having a lucid dream. It is from the 1990 Empire album.

The lyrics describe, "a doorway that I run through in the night." Could I be lucid dreaming right now as the song plays? Let me know if you see this in print.
