So I went to Walgreen's and even though the Calms Forte worked great, I had the bright idea to purchase LunaSom's PM which is also a natural sleep aid because the pills were on sale.
Price
A bottle of LunaSom PM containing 60 blue and white gel capsules is regularly priced at $10.
Ingredients
LunaSom PM contains melatonin, white willow bark extract, valerian root powder, chamomile flower extract, microcrystalline cellulose, gelatin, water, silicon dioxide, titanium dioxide, stearic acid, magnesium stearate, natural and artificial peppermint flavor, and FD&C Blue #1.
What the Company Claims
LunaSom claims that they have "taken a science-based approach to develop a unique, nutritional formula to promote natural, restful sleep including ingredients traditionally used to calm a busy mind and relieve minor discomfort."
They also say that the pills are "fast acting, non-habit forming," that they are "made with the highest quality ingredients," and that it "promotes healthy sleep patterns, without morning grogginess." All of this sounded good to me...
Results After Using
The directions stated that one to three pills should be taken 30 minutes before bedtime or as needed throughout the night.
The first night that I used LunaSom I took three capsules because I was exhausted, but I knew it would take me forever to fall asleep on my own. I was happy to find that within 15 to 20 minutes I did begin to feel very tired and I fell asleep soon after.
I slept well that evening, but I was awakened the next morning by the sound of loud talking. When I woke up, I felt super groggy - so much for that claim - but I wasn't able to fall back to sleep on my own, so I decided to just start my day.
I took LunaSom PM every night for the two weeks and I think the results became worse.
Even after taking three capsules every night, LunaSom never made me feel relaxed, so I still felt anxious as I fell asleep.
I also didn't fall into a deep peaceful slumber with these pills, so occasionally I'd wake up throughout the night still feeling anxious. Or the slightest noise would immediately wake me and I usually couldn't fall back to sleep on my own. So I would take a couple more LunaSoms and every morning I'd wake up feeling exhausted and groggy.
I was also hoping that the pills would help me to get to sleep at an earlier time, but since LunaSom didn't help me to de-stress, I wasn't able to calm down enough to get to even think about getting to sleep earlier.
In the End...
LunaSom PM was just a big disappointment the only thing they helped me to do was fall asleep within 30 minutes, but I never stayed asleep nor did I get a good night's rest with them.
So I stopped taking the pills last week. I actually am better off without them. I still go to bed late, but I don't wake up in the middle of the night, nor do I wake up feeling groggy.
I know when I go through another spell of insomnia that I will not be buying LunaSom PM which I give 1.5 out of 5 stars. I'm sticking to the Calm Forte by Hyland's.
