Lunch Mate Oven Roasted Turkey Breast is Not Worth the Savings

While I know that it is not the healthiest choice when it comes to a lunch time meal, I really love sandwiches made with cold cuts. Turkey is by far my favorite. The cost of always keeping fresh lunch meat in the house for sandwiches can get a bit high. I recently tried to save a few dollars by purchasing Lunch Mate Oven Roasted Turkey. This is one instance where the old saying of "You get what you pay for" definitely applies.

This sliced turkey breast is packaged in a one pound bag priced at only $2.49. The same amount of sandwich meat can cost at least double that, if not more. The front of the package depicts a very appetizing looking sandwich which further compelled me to take a chance on this product. The back of the zippered package is clear, which enabled me to see the meat. The color looked good, so I felt fairly confident that I would enjoy the flavor of this inexpensive lunch meat.

Two ounces of Lunch Mate Oven Roasted Turkey contains ninety calories. There is a total of five Fat grams, with one point five grams of Saturated Fat. There is no Trans Fat in this turkey, which is a positive. There is thirty milligrams of Cholesterol and a whopping six hundred and eighty milligrams of Sodium. This should certainly be noted by those who are advised to follow a low Sodium diet. Additionally there is two grams of Total Carbohydrates, one grams of Sugar and eight percent of the daily recommended value of Iron. One fact of this product that I did like was that this serving size offers nine grams of Protein.

The very first sandwich I made using this sliced turkey breast convinced me that I would not be purchasing it again. Even with the addition of lettuce, tomato, sliced onion and a tangy horseradish sauce, the blandness of the meat could not be overlooked. This turkey was just very flavorless and lacked any resemblance to any of my other favorite lunch meats. I absolutely love a good turkey sandwich and this one was very disappointing.

The price of this sandwich meat was certainly very budget friendly. Considering the amount of sliced turkey we go through in my house, I could definitely save some money if I switched over from my favorite brand to this one. While the taste was not offensive or unpleasant in any way, it was just the fact that it was completely devoid of flavor that made me realize this was not a product I would be buying again. Those sandwich lovers who don't have a real affinity for the flavor of turkey may not be turned off by this lunch meat at all. However, those of us who truly enjoy and look forward to a delicious turkey sandwich will surely be disappointed. Overall I would only give Lunch Mate Oven Roasted Turkey one and a half out of five food stars. In future shopping trips, I will surely avoid this product and spend the extra money for a lunch meat product I am sure to enjoy.
