Lunch Money Live Music Band for Children and Kids

Adults like Lunch Money Too!

The exciting news about Lunch Money is this music band is just for kids! In the 1960s, family-friendly music was available, but music designed, written and performed especially for kids was not. Children who loved music listened to the ideals and fancies of adulthood. Lunch Money is a music band that designs, writes and performs music just for children.

I'm happy to introduce to you, "Lunch Money", an indie-rock band based in Columbia, SC. Adults, step aside and let your children stand up and move! This music was made just for the rhythms and listening pleasure of the child-like mind.

Songs by Lunch Money include Cookies as Big as my Head, Tiny Dinosaurs and Dizzy. Molly, band member, performer and songwriter claims that "her songs do not originate from lessons or facts that she wants to communicate to children, but rather from the 'a-ha moments' that strike her randomly throughout her days - the little unexpected connections she can make between seemingly ordinary ideas that are what she considers the poetry of living". The statement was phenomenal. Kids aren't interested in wisdom. Children are more interested in "cookies as big as my head!"

The Lunch Money website indicates that Lunch Money began in 2003 when singer and guitarist, Molly Ledford, decided to bring the live music experience to younger audiences. Jay Barry and J.P. Stephens also make up the band Lunch Money. Jay Barry plays drums and J.P. Stephens plays several instruments to include bass, mandolin and harmonica.

Lunch Money is no small matter in the music world. This awesome kids live music band has entertained at places like the World Café Live in Philadelphia, the New York Public Library in Manhattan, the XM/Sirius Performance Studio in Washington, DC and the Summer on Southport Festival in Chicago and the Lollapolooza Festival in Grant Park, Chicago. The Summer on Southport has a children's festival in 2010 on July 31 through August 1, 2010. The Lollapolooza Festival happens in 2010 on August 6-8, 2010.

This year's Lunch Money schedule through June 10, 2010 looks promising though Molly claims the band doesn't tour heavily. It shouldn't be surprising that Molly and her husband (also a band member) are parents.

On February 20, 2010 Lunch Money will be at the Columbia, SC Children's Theatre performing for the Cinderella Ball.

On April 17, 2010, Lunch Money will be at the Coolkidz Expo in Raleigh, NC. This is my territory and I'm hoping to see the performance. The Coolkidz Expo is a promising new event that brings hot products and cool concepts to parents and kids alike.

On April 24, 2010, Lunch Money will be at the Richland County Public Library in Columbia, SC. This performance will be held during the Annual Celebration of Stories.

On May 15, 2010, Lunch Money will be at the Tulsa, OK Children's Museum.

On June 10, Lunch Money will be at: The Charleston County Library during the Piccolo Spoleto Festival.

According to Molly, her favorite place to perform is the Columbia, SC Main Library. She says "they set up a stage for us right in front of the 'Where the Wild Things Are' mural and let us play right in the middle of the library with our music echoing up throughout all 4 levels." The taboo experience of breaking silence in the library seems to be one of Molly's favorites!

Lunch Money has two CDs out, Dizzy and Silly Reflection. You can also listen to several of Lunch Money's songs by visiting the Lunch Money website or by searching them on YouTube.

Visit Lunch Money's website, follow them on Facebook, MySpace or Twitter! Take the time to take your kids to see one of their performances! Your children will feel special having music just for them.

All my Raleigh readers with kids - let's go to the Coolkidz Expo in Raleigh on April 17-18, 2010 and see Lunch Money live and in person. For more information about the Coolkidz Expo and Lunch Money, click here.
