Lutheran Church Annual Cookie Walk a Success

Each year around Christmas, various Lutheran Churches in the area of Sterling Heights, Utica, and Clinton Township Michigan, host a Cookie Walk. This annual event is to help raise money for charities in the area, that help the homeless, needy, and for MCREST as well. Today my spouse and I stopped by and visited the Christ Lutheran Church located at, 12500 Canal Rd in Sterling Heights Michigan, for their annual Cookie Walk.

The prices of the cookies varied from church to church, going as low as $2.50 a dozen on up to $7.00 a dozen. The baked goods are made by the parishioners, and by other people who just wanted to help out for this great event. This is a fun event, upon entering, you take a box and walk around the tables, filling your box with the desired baked goods you want. There were bars, chocolate covered pretzels, fudge, peanut brittle, festive Christmas cookies, home made jams, and even bags of reindeer feed. The event started at 9 am and ran through 12 pm. There was another station set up in the corner, which was selling packaged fudge, and soup mixes for $6.00, in which all proceeds went to MCREST, Capuchin Kitchen and the Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries. Upon paying for our items, we asked the gentleman who was taking the money how the event went. The gentleman smiled, and had said, it was overwhelming the amount of people who turned out to help support the cookie walk. That they had seen many of their own parishioners, and a lot of people who were just driving by, had stopped in to buy a dozen or more of cookies. What started out as numerous tables all over the room full of baked goods, resulted in almost everything gone.

It is truly amazing, the amount of people that will show up and participate in events like these to help out others, in a time when most people are hurting themselves. As in the metro Detroit area, the number of people losing their jobs, is growing each day. The food banks are seeing more new people, and are stretched to their limit, resulting in empty shelves. But the generosity of people wanting to help people is alive and well, as I read on a free want ad site, many people are giving up their personal gift giving, and offering to feed families in need. I do believe in trying times, the true goodness of mankind comes out of each one of us. What we need to do is, to continue this generosity, not only in times of need, for throughout the entire year.
