LUVS Diapers Review

Laura Ward
Have you heard of the LUVS challenge? LUVS, a well-known brand of diapers, has offered a diaper challenge. Basically, you buy the LUVS brand of diapers and if you do not like them, you send in the UPC code and your receipt for a refund. Because we have used Huggies and Pampers for both of our children, I was skeptical to purchase another brand. I had tried store brand diapers in the past, all of which failed and leaked badly.

We purchased a pack of LUVS diapers from our local grocery store and took them home to start the challenge. The LUVS were definitely cheaper than our normal diapers and I felt like I was saving alot. Basically, you just throw money away when you purchase diapers. My two-year old son like the Blue's Clues print on the diaper itself. My two year old is basically toilet trained, except for at naptime and bedtime. I put the diaper on my six month old and noticed that it did not stretch very well. Definitely not as stretchable as the Huggies or Pampers brands we were used to. At diaper change time, the diaper became very squishy and sagged badly. Perhaps this was because it was not stretchy and did not comform to his body well. Other than that, the diaper seemed to work well. It did not leak and the diaper did not aggravate his sensitive skin.

I wanted to see how the diaper did on a child that is mobile. Because my six month old is not crawling yet, I used the diaper on our two year old for a few hours. After two hours, his diaper was wet and very droopy. I think that the diapers need to be more stretchy to allow them to stay up better. These diapers do not conform to their little bodies.

Now, for the big challenge! After bathtime, we put the LUVS diaper on both our two year old and the baby. This was hard for me because I had never used a different brand throughout the night. At this time, I had no other choice since these were the diapers that we had. The boys went down for bed and the challenge would begin. How did they do when they woke up? Not so good. My two year old looked like he had been swimming in his diaper and his bed sheets were soaked. With the Huggies or Pampers, this did not happen. The baby's diaper was soaked and extremely droopy, but it had not begun to leak. Any longer and it would have though. The baby's bottom had a slight diaper rash from the excess moisture, but it was nothing severe.

What did I think of LUVS overall? Here is my conclusion:

*I liked the fact that the diapers are significantly cheaper than the diapers we normally purchase.
*For daytime use only, they seem okay-they do get droopy quickly on a mobile child
*I would never use them again for naptime or bedtime

I am a stay at home mom and change their diapers far more often than most daycares would. I think it would be interesting to see how the LUVS did on a child in daycare.

We keep our in luvs all the time. Never had my boys leak at night throught their luvs, might not let them drink so much. As far as your daycare goes they work great.
