Luvs diapers are the cheaper disposable diapers on the market, other than store brand. Luvs diapers are about two to three dollars cheaper than Huggies and Pampers per pack. Just like Huggies, Pampers and store brand disposable diapers, they contain chlorine in them to make the diapers white. Seventh Generation diapers are brown. They use no chemicals in their diapers which is safer for the baby. They may not be as appealing to some because of the color or lack of characters on them.
Luvs and other popular brand diapers can cause diaper rashes in babies due to the chemicals that they use. A new baby's skin is very susceptible to skin problems. These chemicals used in disposable diapers can flare up an already aggravated area very easily. Seventh Generation is less likely to cause these problematic diaper rashes. They are a little more like cloth diapers in the respect of the chemicals used in disposable diapers.
Luvs claims that they are leak free. I felt that Luvs are not very absorbent. I have, in the past, used them on my children but only a handful of times. The tabs do not reach over too well and they are not the velcro tabs that many diapers have switched to for ease in opening and closing the diapers. I have also had some leaking issues with them. The sizes are not exactly the same as other brands. I feel that Luvs runs a bit smaller. That may also be due to the fact that the tabs do not pull over as far as other brands do.
Seventh Generations diapers may not look as snazzy as the others since they have no little characters on the diapers. They are far more absorbent that Luvs on all occasions. The tabs pull over further than Luvs and are velcro so it is easy on and easy off. The price for Seventh Generation is comparable to Huggies and Pampers. The biggest problem with these diapers is finding them. They aren't as easy to find as Luvs are, as you can go into any grocery store or drug store and you are sure to find Luvs. The only places that I have seen Seventh Generation diapers is Wegmans, Whole Foods, natural food stores, and online at 1800diapers.com. I order mine online once a month. Shipping is free if your order is over fifty dollars.
Luvs has nice little characters that children like on the front. But how often do they really see those characters? I know that my children do not care who is on the front of their diaper. I do not care either. There are more important factors such as environmentally safe, absorbency, affordability and comfort.
As a mother of four, it is important to find diapers that work for us and do not compromise what I believe in. I should also add that I like to use things that are environmentally safe. The statistics on how many landfills that disposable diapers fill each year is astonishing. Seventh Generation is no different in that aspect. It may be one more reason for cloth diapers to be used more often. As far as disposable goes, Seventh Generation is a much safer alternative to Luvs.
