LYFE JENNINGS: "CHANGE" HAPPENS!

saba,ink
Think a few years back when "Must Be Nice," "Hypothetically," were blazing the music charts while introducing us to the talents of Lyfe Jennings. Suddenly, detours happened and what appeared to be a future filled with promise suddenly took a "wrong" turn on the "Highway of Lyfe."

Lyfe explains that if he could change one thing, it would be the way some people still react to him. "Sometimes people know about my background and about the trouble I was in, so they're intimidated by me," he notes. "When I have a conversation with them, they're trying to match the persona of who they think I'm supposed to be-this tough guy who did all this time in prison," he says. "They say things like, 'Yeah, I'm a hood dude too.' And that immediately kills the mood and alters the relationships that I could have had with these people. I'm a regular person who likes to play basketball, go to clubs with my guys, play with my kids and work. I'm not an institutionalized thug."

And so, it is only appropriate that his soon to be released CD is entitled LYFE CHANGE. Due out April 26, 2008, folks have already had a taste of the new album with the single NEVER NEVER LAND which is getting quite a bit of air time.

I've had a chance to listen to the entire CD and must say that this is one I would recommend. There are guest spots from Snoop Dogg (OLD SCHOOL),Wyclef Jean (YOU THINK YOU'VE GOT IT BAD) and T.I. (BRAND NEW). I really liked the way they switched it up on COPS UP with a title that implies one thing, and lyrics that say something else. To summarize; "somebody call the Cops Up, 'cause somebody done stole my heart."
CHANGE is a refreshing project , with Lyfe pulling R&B flavor, a touch of hip-hop and a bit of neo-soul out the bag. I thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end.....and have to say that this one is "biscuit soppin' gravy good!"

While witnessing his own transformation, Lyfe seems to be enjoying his career as he expands to businessman. He is not only singer/songwriter/producer, he is becoming CEO of his own label, Jesus Swings, with a deal through Universal and Motown Records. Lyfe comments, "I don't really do the celebrity thing, you know, hanging at industry parties. I got two sons and during my free time I try to be with those boys."

So, as the title song "CHANGE THA GAME" infers and "KEEP ON DREAMING" clearly state, there's only two things in life that remain the same - that's change and change!

I wrote my article on "Lyfe Change" yesterday, and I see yours is linked to mine, so I stopped through to see what's the latest. I LOVE this album to death, but seeing him live is quite the experience. Lyfe gives you butterflies in your stomach, at least mine anyway.

Excellent write-up! I love his music. We need more positive artists like this. :-)
