Lyrics of Love - My Personal Favorites

Song Lyrics that Convey and Inspire Love

Linda Riggs
Music does so many things for so many people. It can make you tap your fingers on just about anything . It can make you wiggle in your seat and itch to get up and dance. Some songs make you want to sing. Others make you want to cry. It's almost magical how music and lyrics can stir up so many different emotions in people. There are even songs that make people laugh out loud. It's incredible. I like songs that are romantic. Certain songs are so captivating that they make me close my eyes and visualize other places and fantastic things.

When I try to think of my very favorite romantic tunes, I come up with a rather large list. It's so very hard to choose one favorite and trying just makes my mental list of favorites grow. I've decided to limit myself in this article to my top five favorite romantic songs. Sharing them and writing about them makes me smile. Even without listening to them, they're still powerful in just remembering them. Yes, music is absolutely magical. Here are a few of my favorites and what i find the most inspiring lines in each.

I Dreamed Last Night / Justin Hayward & John Lodge , The Blue Jays Album:
This song is the most outwardly romantic song I've ever heard. The instruments convey a feeling from the first to the last note that's so beautiful it's likely to bring on goose bumps. Justin Hayward's voice is near angelic on this tune. When he sings, " If there's a time and a place to begin love, it must be now, let it go, set it free.." you either have to sing along or hold your breath as to not miss a note. It's that beautiful. This album wasn't played much on radio stations. It's a bit rare but can still be found. If you've never heard it, discover it. It's an awesome album from the first song to the last. One suggestion, play it loud!

Longer / Dan Fogelberg :
Dan is greatly missed already. He seemed far too young to pass on. How lucky we all are that he left us so many incredible tunes. I was fortunate enough to meet Dan Fogelberg a few times. He was kind and considerate and went out of his way to meet my brother and give him an autograph. I'll never forget him for that. I'm a piano player myself so I have always admired Dan's songs. Longer is his most romantic effort in my opinion. The notes of this song dally up and down the keys in simple ways. It's light and airy and lovely. When Dan sang " Longer than there's been stars up in the heavens, I've been in love with you.. " one could only smile and wish for a love of that magnitude.

Lost Inside of You / Barbara Streisand & Kris Kristoferson :
I can't even mention this song without laughing. I was so crazy about Barbara that after seeing one of her movies at age fifteen, I ran out the next day and got my hair permed. If that's not bad enough, my older sister went with me and got the exact same style! This song is unusual in the pairing of voices. Barbara's voice is so strong and perfect . Kris has a rather gravely voice. It still works. The lyrics " When you came inside my life, now I'm lost inside of you ..." are equally beautiful in with each of their voices. It perfectly describes that moment all lovers feel when they first realize that they're in love.

There We Are / James Taylor :
When James sang about Carly Simon, his heart and soul went into every single note. It was so obvious and easy to hear and feel. This song conveyed his feelings for her like no other. I always secretly hoped they would get back together. I loved them both and had all of their albums. When James sang the lyrics " And though we are as nothing to the stars that shine above, You are my universe, You are my love.." it gave me hope that they'd still find a way to get back. The song still brings a tear to my eyes when I allow it to. It brings a smile to my face more often. I hope it does the same for Carly. What a lucky girl she is to have someone love her like that!

Touch Me / The Doors :
It's not very often that Jim Morrison is referred to as romantic. A few of the Doors songs had glimmers of his romantic side but, not very many. The Doors lyrics tended to be more psychedelic and intense. Jim's voice was captivating no matter what he was singing. Sometimes it was raw and gruff. Often it was strong and straight forward. I liked all the Doors songs. My favorite listen was always when Jim sang softer, more romantic lyrics. When he sang, " I'm gonna love you till the stars fall from the sky for you and I ..." that was the Jim Morrison I was crazy about. I'm sure there's very few women that wouldn't love to have a man love them in that way. What a shame that the world lost Jim so soon. What a wonderful gift he left us though!

Well, those are my favorite romantic songs and lyrics. I hope reading about them has inspired you to dust off your old albums and give them a new listen. Hopefully , you'll wrap your arms around someone you love and snuggle with them while you enjoy the songs. Peace and love to all!

  • These songs are all very romantic.
  • It's a good idea to listen to them with someone you love.
  • It's also a good idea to turn the lights down low and snuggle while listening.
Singing along with these tunes could change the desired effect if you sing off tune.
