Mac Booting Problems - What to Do when Your Mac Won't Start

Lance Esondi
With every type of computer, you are going to face problems. Many Mac owners don't expect these quirky issues hoping that the switch to the Mac will give them less trouble, but there are still problems that you are going to have to face even with these quality machines. One problem that many people run into are Mac booting issues. Do you know what to do when your computer simply won't start up?

Most of the time, the problem is caused by having the connections on the system loose. Over time or when moving the computer slightly the cords might come out. Pets and children especially are one of the main sources of this problem.

Before freaking out and thinking everything is broken, look down and check the computer's connections to be sure everything is correct. One common mistake that people make is that the power strip might not be plugged in or turned on properly. Get these easy steps out of the way first before trying anything else.

Many Macs will suspend the computer if you aren't using it. This does give you a black screen making it look like the system is off. Sometimes just tapping the power button in attempts to turn it on doesn't help in this situation. You need to just hit some of the keys on the keyboard to wake the computer up again. Don't expect instant results. This can take more than 10 seconds at time to come back up so you can use it.

At rare times you might have a boot issue because of a software error. This doesn't happen often but there is a simple fix to most of these. Your computer does come with a CD that is made for these problems. You can boot from this CD and it will guide you through a process to fix potential errors. This is the most common way of fixing computer related issues of this nature on the Mac.
