MAC Color 3 Color Quad from the Spring Color Forecast Collection

Layla A.
Yes, yes- another item from the Spring Color Forecast collection. However, I was not as pleased with this one. My love of purple has hurt me again and caused me to buy something not worth my money, quite frankly. I was so excited about this product, but MAC eyeshadows, I am realizing, are simply not as good as you would think. This is my review of the Color 3 Forecast Quad. It gets 3 out of 5 stars.

COLOR

The colors in this quad are gorgeous. You start with Mink Pink, followed by Bruised Plum, Black Tulip, and Jungle Moon. Mink Pink is a light pink-beige that looks perfect for a highlight. Wrong. It is too dark for a highlight and makes the wearer look unnatural. However, I will say it makes a nice, subtle, spring lid color. Bruised Plum is a medium-toned red-based purple and is the shimmery one of the bunch. When swatched and applied, it shows up more of an iced/dirty mauve. When I was using this quad, I could not get the color to show up to save my life. Black Tulip, my favorite, swatches as an intense, deep-toned red-based purple, but goes on the eyes very sheer and blends even sheerer. Jungle Moon shows up as a dirty gray- not what I was expecting at all. Needless to say, they look way better in the pan.

FORMULA

These shadows are all very soft, but lack in pigmentation and blendability. They go on very sheer and quite frankly, they would require a magician to get them successfully on your lid.

FUNCTIONALITY

If you can get this quad to work with you, you still won't get a lot of use out of it. These are deeper, fall colors, and frankly, are even too dark for daytime in fall. I may use this once in a while, but for the most part, it will remain in my drawer.

PACKAGING

MAC has re-designed the quad packaging, making it thicker and supposedly more durable. It feels good, but I do worry about the plastic cracking and it dirties quite easily. The magnetic closure is nice, but truthfully, I miss the old quad packaging- you can also not depot these unless you burn the whole thing.

PRICE

This retailed at MAC for $36, but was limited edition. If you have your heart set on it, you may still be able to find it at a counter or it might be online somewhere.

FINAL OPINIONS

Even me, a lover of purple, cannot get behind this quad. I don't think it is worth the $36 and am very disappointed. They swatch very vibrantly on the finger, but as soon as they hit your eye or your arm for swatching, they become extremely, extremely sheer. I would save your money and find some other palette that is better quality.
