MAC Eye Kohl in Smolder

Everyone should have classic black eyeliner in their collection. This is definitely that. Is it my favorite black eyeliner? No. Is it more than adequate? Yes. I use Smolder when I don't have time to dig my Urban Decay Zero out of one of my palettes and it does a fine job. But, especially for the waterline, I pick Urban Decay.

COLOR

Smolder is deep black, though not as intense as Feline, it is still a very deep, matte black. However, whne I apply it to my eyes, it turns into a metallic blue. For that reason, I only use it on my waterline where no other eye products affect the color. This can be great for a classic smoky eye because this one does smudge, and can pair great with a ton of other colors.

FORMULA

The formula on this is great- creamy, smooth, glides on, smudges slightly. The only thing I do not like about it is the slight color tint on me. This has also happened to my family members when they have used their Smolder pencils, so maybe this is not unique to mine. It does last a good amount of time on the waterline- a whole school/work day, but it will smudge if you cry.

FUNCTIONALITY

Smolder is a true black so it is very functional as an everyday kind of product. The slight blue tint can actually look cool in some looks, but if you don't want that, I would avoid Smolder. It is, like all other Eye Kohls, very portable and easy to apply, making it great for the on-the-go girl.

PACKAGING

Eye Kohls are always in the MAC black packaging with silver writing and a black cap. It is thinner than a makeup brush, and about the same size as most pencils. It is very portable, though should be protected so as not to dent or break or anything horrible like that.

Smolder is available wherever MAC cosmetics are sold and retails for $14.50.

FINAL OPINIONS

If you are looking for a deep, intense, true black on the eye, look further. This is an intense color but does often appear blue under certain conditions. If you are looking for good black, I recommend Urban Decay's Zero. But, if you are open to the cool color effects this can have, this may be an Eye Kohl to look into. I use it in a hurry and on a few other select occasions, but this is not necessarily my everyday black.
