MAC Eye Kohl in Violet Underground

When I bought Violet Underground, honestly, I bought it because it reminded me of The Velvet Underground; however, upon receiving it, I fell in love with the deep violet color. Does the name have any correlation to the band? Only MAC will know... But I will keep on pretending because I love it so much.

COLOR

Violet Underground is, as one might suspect, a deep violet. When you first put it on and examine it, it almost looks like it is black. But, when you see it in the light and after it has been on for awhile, you get this extremely deep, blue-based dark violet that is unlike any eyeliner I have seen.

FORMULA

Violet Underground also has a great formula. In my makeup days, I have found that purple eyeliners are usually subpar in the formula department. This one was exceptionally creamy from the get go and will not smudge. Like many other Eye Kohls, it does fade if you rub it, once again, I have experienced no smudging.

FUNCTIONALITY

This color is great for the water line in purple smoky eyes. You get that intense, full lash look, but with the hint of purple. Gorgeous! It is very portable and is good for fall, winter, or everyday on the waterline for purple lovers. I can see someone of any age getting tones of use from this particular eyeliner.

PACKAGING

Violet Underground is in the same sleek, black pencil as all of MAC's other eyeliners and boasts the same plastic cap. It must be sharpened, and I find that this one kind of sticks to pencil sharpeners in the cleaning process. However, this is a small price to pay for this gem of a shade. It is very portable and easy to use, but has indented a little while loose in my purse. I would recommend keeping on-the-go Eye Kohls in their own place where they won't be cut or broken by anything.

PRICE

Violet Underground is no longer available anymore as it is discontinued, but all other Eye Kohls retail for $14.50 wherever MAC cosmetics are sold. You can also find this one on eBay or a number of other cosmetics websites.

FINAL OPINIONS

I'm not going to lie; this is probably my favorite MAC Eye Kohl or even MAC eyeliner of the ones I own. I think it has many uses at many different times of the year and will work on any skin tone, any age. If you can get your hands on this, at least try it. I have seen it as low as $5.99 on some websites- that is almost criminal! Anyone who loves purple or wants a change from the normal black, I would check this one out. I'm glad I did.
