COLOR
I had been lusting after this color for years since I first got into MAC, as I am a lover of any purple eyeshadow. That is why my dislike for this one was a huge surprise- I had never gotten to test it in the store, because I always forgot whenever I went. However, I wish I had, even though I didn't really buy it at retail price, as I would have swapped for something else. In the pot, this is one of the prettiest colors imaginable. It is almost a light indigo color with pink undertones. Sounds beautiful, right? Let's just say it is a lot different when swatched, but I'll talk about that later. In my MAC palette, this shadow looks beautiful, and it will stay there, however, it is almost like when someone buys a snake just to show it off. It is a show pet that is really mean after being ignored for awhile.
FORMULA
This is where the shadow has its faults. While it is soft like a MAC shadow, somehow, they messed up the formula in this one. It is a frost finish, like my Swish eyeshadow, but in comparison, this one is pitiful. This is my least pigmented MAC shadow out of eighteen that I own. While you get a nice purple out of it, it is very sheer and splotchy when applied and has barely any of the color you see in the pot. It has an iridescent tone which is nice, but it is unlike any other frost finish I have. Frost is in a tie for my favorite finish, along with veluxe pearl, and that is why I am so disappointed with this one. It seemed like the perfect shadow for me, but it is not.
FUNCTIONALITY
As I have only tried this shadow dry, I cannot tell you how it works wet. As you know, I have been very disappointed by how it is dry and it is not the best eyeliner color. To me, use of Parfait Amour is very limited, but if you can get it to work for you, all the power to ya! This is also not very functional as a day color because even with the little bit of color you get, it is rather dark. I could see this color working nicely in a subtle smoky eye, but I myself have not tried it in a smoky eye yet.
PRICE
There is not much to say about price, because it is the same price as any other MAC shadow. It retails for $14.50 at MAC stores, counters. For $14.50, you get 1.5 grams, which is average for MAC.
FINAL OPINIONS
When it comes to Parfait Amour, I say, look into other colors and always make sure to test a color before you get it. If this color applied true to pot form, it would probably be my favorite shadow. If you've been lusting after it and you've tried it and the lack of pigmentation does not bother you, go for it! I could see this color being amazing with a little work, however, I do not have the patience.
