MAC Slimshine in Long Stem Rose

Layla A.
MAC lip products being my favorite in the industry, I was super happy to finally be able to try a Slimshine since I missed out on these (I had to swap for one). Like the Tarte Cheek Stain, my hopes were high, and let down incredibly.

COLOR

Long Stem Rose is a mid-tone pink with slight coral undertones. I really like the color, and feel that this is where it shines. However, this color does have the ability to make your teeth look yellow. Anyway, the thing about Slimshines is that they are supposed to be wearable and portable. Both of these things are true- I would wear this as an everyday color if I liked the formula.

FORMULA

This is where people will probably disagree with me. I do not like these because I think they are cakey but yet slick, if that makes sense. Long Stem Rose does have good color payoff, but since my lips are dry, it clings to every single imperfection and makes my lips look ten times worse. I wish it worked better for me, because these are almost a gloss and lipstick in one. Great if it works for you. I will say that they are long lasting and give a good tint of color, but I even have matte finish lipsticks that work better for my dry lips. Formula = fail, in my book.

FUNCTIONALITY

This is another place where Slimshines are such a good idea. Since these are shiny and easy to apply, they are multi-use in that they are lipstick and gloss. That being said, they are in a skinny, sleek tube that is easy to open and easy to carry around. They are very portable and great for those at school as they glide right on.

PACKAGING

While I love the sleek feel of the packaging, the mechanism broke on me so I now have to push the product back down with my finger- not cool.

PRICE

These retailed at MAC for $14.50, but are no longer available. If you have your heart set on them, they are usually available on eBay or allcosmeticswholesale.com.

FINAL OPINIONS

If my lips weren't so horrible, I think these would be my favorite lip product. I am not that lucky, However, if you do have under control lips, I recommend trying one if you can. For those with dry lips, try before you buy, definitely. If I had done that, I would not own Long Stem Rose.
