Macbook Air: A Recap of Macworld 2008

After the iPhone was revealed at last year's Macworld, the bar was then set pretty high for this years Macworld keynote. Apple has undoubtedly been working very hard to develop better updates and upgrades to their current technology and additonally they have worked hard towards including more touch technology in their products.

MacBook Air was revealed today. This thinnovative new product truly lives up to its name. It is a sleek three pound notebook, its thinnest width 0.16 inches and its maximum height is an impressive 0.76 inches, just about the width of your index finger. This makes MacBook Air the most portable notebook ever, which is great for travelers and college students (providing you are willing to pay the $1800 price). In addition to it being the worlds thinnest laptop, it includes a larger trackpad that has multi-touch technology. Apples decision to incorporate touch technology in MacBook Air undeniably came from the success that it had with iPhone and iPod Touch.

In addition to MacBook Air, Apple revealed a new wireless product called Time Capsule. Time Capsule works with Time Machine to backup one or all of your Macs. Backing up your data is now make easier, according to Steve Jobs all you have to do is "bring Time Capsule home, plug it in, click a few buttons on your Macs and voilĂ -all the Macs in your house are being backed up automatically, every hour of every day."

Apple also reveled upgrades for iPhone and iPod Touch. iPhone users can now recieve a FREE software upgrade that will allow them to access new features. Of these features, users can now customize their home screen, and watch movies rented from iTunes. In addition to the software upgrade to iPhone, there is also a software upgrade for iPod Touch. For a $20 price, this upgrade will allow users access to five new iPod Touch applications, including mail, maps, weather, stocks and notes. Additionally this upgrade will also allow users to watch movies rented from iTunes.

Overall the technology updates and revelation of MacBook Air and Time Capsule was impressive. Although these new products sometimes come with a high price, many would argue that the price is worth it.

In the next Macworld, I would love to see Apple offer more multi-touch technology, specifically I would love to see a notebook created without a keyboard that operated fully on multi-touch technology.
