MacGregor M675 Iron Review

Classic Looks with Modern Playability

I have long been a fan of MacGregor Golf. My interest peaked the past few years once my all time favorite golfer; Greg Norman started to work with the company. I thought I'd write a few reviews on their more recent products. As I do write these reviews, do keep in mind that MacGregor has a totally new lineup for 2008, but that does not mean that these clubs I will be writing about are obsolete, actually they will be in bags for years to come, and with the new coming out, the old goes on sale!

The MacGregor M675 Forged irons at first glance look like a standard satin finished muscle back blade. Thats pretty much where the generalization stops, there is a whole lot of technology going into these simple looking clubs!

The 3-6 irons are made from forged 1045 Carbon Steel with tungsten inserted in the sole area for added trajectory and forgiveness and the 7-PW are created from forged 1025 Carbon Steel. The 1045 steel is a harder steel, designed for low spin and more distance. The 1025 steel is a softer steel which gives you more feel, spin and distance control on your shorter shots. The wedges are designed the same way as the short irons.

The faces incorporate the "V-Foil Technology" which adds a little spring effect even in the irons! The faces are also CNC milled perfectly flat and the groves are CNC Milled for accuracy and consistency.

When I first swung these clubs I was highly impressed with the feel. They feel like a traditional forged blade, but the trajectory and distance was incredible! I was able to gain a few more yards with each club while still being able to shape the ball any way I liked! When I got a chance to take them to the course the accuracy was amazing. The milled face really does make the club more consistent and the spin they generated was just right. I did not have to guess if the ball was going to jump forward, or rip back 10 feet. It landed and stayed within a few feet of that area each and every time!

I would suggest these to any low handicap player looking for a great set at a great price. Since MacGregor has discontinued these, they are selling as low as $279.00 on the Internet and for about $40 more from a local Pro or Club Maker, can be adjusted to fit you perfectly! These are by far A+ irons that perfectly blend tradition and technology in a clean, classic looking head!
