MacGregor MT Forged Iron Review

MikeBabjak
Well, while I was sad to see what I thought was a great lineup in the MacTec series, the sun has come up again! MacGregor Golf is offering a whole new lineup from driver to putter for the 2008 season and as I get a chance to hit some shots with each club I am happy to report that they are going in the right direction! They are offering a few new designs for men, women and seniors along with some great new forgings.

The MacGregor MT Forged cavity back irons are designed for the mid handicap player who wants a more premium, traditional looking golf club. They are a very clean, classic looking club a little more offset and thicker top line than the Pro M and Pro C, but it is not very noticeable. They feature a welded forged face to a stainless steel body, yes that's right! The Cup Face 360 is back in a MacGregor iron! What will this do for you? Make the face one large sweet spot and give you a ton of distance no matter where you hit the ball on the face. It also allows weight to be distributed to the perimeter for more forgiveness.

I took these clubs out hoping for a replacement to my favorite MacGregor iron in recent years the MacTec NVG2 Mid irons. These were close, very close! They do look very clean at address and are very easy to hit, however they were not quite as long. There is an all cast model I will be reviewing that fits the replacement for the old MacTec model. The forged face offers a very responsive feel and the ball really jumped of the face and is offers an overall better feel. I found them to be fairly workable, however not as much as the two forged models due to the more game improvement design.

This is a great set for the mid handicap player looking for a very forgiving, very long iron and at the same time does not want to sacrifice looks to get it! I would defiantly pick up a set, and at $699.99 it is very affordable compared to similar iron styles in the industry.

This is a solid replacement to the NVG2 Mid with a better feel. They offer an all cast model the MT Mid irons that are the true replacement for the NVG2 Mid. Hold on to you seats, these clubs I will be reviewing next are rockets!
