MacGregor MT Mid Iron Review

Well, while I was sad to see what I thought was a great lineup in the MacTec series. The sun has come up again! MacGregor Golf is offering a whole new lineup from driver to putter for the 2008 season and as I get a chance to hit some shots with each club I am happy to report that they are going in the right direction! They are offering a few new designs for men, women and seniors along with some great new forgings. This is a very exciting time for MacGregor Golf and a great time for those who have played their products in the past to give them another look!

The MacGregor MT Mid cavity back irons are designed for the mid to high handicap player who wants more distance and forgiveness. Similar to the MT Forged iron, these clubs feature the Cup Face 360 technology by welding a cast club face to a cast body. This creates a club face that is one giant sweet spot as well as allowing the club designers to move the weight of the club low and to the perimeter for more forgiveness and a higher launch angle. The higher launch angle is needed as the main feature that gives this set more distance is the lower loft. Each iron is one club stronger in the loft. Match this with the weighting and you get a Wedge that goes as far as your old 9-iron without sacrificing trajectory.

I took these clubs out after having loved the MacTec NVG2 Mid irons. These irons were the perfect replacement! They have a little more traditional cavity back look to them without as much going on with the club head as the old NVG2 Mid irons had. They launched high and seemed to fly forever. I found it tough to work these clubs, but then again the are really designed to hit the ball high and far with the most forgiveness possible.

This is a great set for the mid to high handicap player looking for a very forgiving, very long iron on a budget. I would defiantly suggest these irons for the average player, and at $599.99 it is very affordable for the amount of performance in these clubs. This is a solid replacement to the NVG2 Mid with a little better look They offer all the features of the NVG2 Mid iron with a fresh new look. I think MacGregor is going to hit a home run with this set!
