MacGregor MT OS Iron Review

MikeBabjak
The recent changes at MacGregor golf have not only brought some new leadership to the company, but plenty of new products as well. With the MacTec line out of the picture, MacGregor has come out with a full new product line for 2008. The MT line is are updated versions of the popular MT series MacGregor was successful with decades ago, and hope will be just as successful in todays market. With new drivers, fairway woods, hybrids, irons, putters, and wedges, the MT line holds a lot of promise, and the folks at MacGregor Golf are making sure that they are offering something for everyone.

The MacGregor MT OS irons are designed for the mid to high handicap player on a little tighter budget. They feature the same Cup Face 360 technology as the MT Mid and MT Forged models, but with a lot more added forgiveness. The Cup Face 360 technology makes the entire face one hot sweet spot by welding the stainless steel face to the body. This also allows for greater accuracy because extra weight can then be moved to the perimeter of the club head. The MT OS irons also feature a very deep undercut channel to allow the designers to widen the sole, push the weight back for a lower center of gravity, and also allow for a thicker top line. This not only gives the player a little more forgiving look, but a much longer iron as well.

This was by far the most forgiving MacGregor iron I have hit in a long time. Even the NVG2 shovels were not as forgiving as this set! They were long and repeatable from shot after shot and put a nice little draw on the ball for me. Working the ball is not anything that comes easy with this set, but it is intended to go high and straight for the average to beginning player. The lightweight steel shaft and the Cup Face 360 along with a little less loft really makes this set fly and stay on line much more easily than any other iron I have ever hit! This model is also going to be available to Seniors and Women with the correct loft, lie, length, and shaft flex to fit them.

If you are looking for a high quality, brand name set of clubs at $499.99, I would suggest this set to anyone! They will give you the distance and forgiveness you need to enjoy the game more without spending a ton of money in the process! Stay tuned for a few more reviews for MacGregor Golf in 2008!
