The MacGregor MT Pro wedges are created from the man who has been at MacGregor longer than anyone and has crafted golf clubs by hand for the likes of Greg Norman, Lee Janzen and countless other golf pros over the years. Don White has made a great wedge that many players will fall in love with.
They feature a very soft 1025 carbon steel head with a little different approach. They feature a onset, curved leading edge and a more square look. This is a very classy wedge with many modern improvements. The sole of the club is what most would call a tour grind, which allows for the heel and toe areas to be ground down so that when you are hitting a more lofted shot you can adjust the head position whiteout picking the leading edge of the club off the surface.
Although the weather was not very good, I got a chance to spend some time with these wedges on the range and practice green. They are first of all, very, very good looking! The brushed satin finish really makes these clubs stand out, and their clean, classic look had me itching to hit them.
The first thing I noticed was the feel. The MT Pro wedges were very similar to the Vokey wedge in that regard. A little heavier, which for delicate shots around the greens in my opinion is exactly what you would want. Something you can feel throughout the entire swing. They were very consistent and repeatable in terms of distance control. The ground sole made hitting bunker and flop shots very easy to pull off as well. I could hit them high or low and get the same result each time. The modern wedges are really a secret weapon in the golf world today and I am happy to see MacGregor jump on board!
If you are looking for a new wedge or wedges this season and are jut planning on following everyone else with a Cleveland or Titleist wedge, you should first give the new MacGregor MT Pro wedges a look. You will be surprised!
